I started reading Comets: creators and destroyers and the first line is:
Comets are like cats: they have tails, and they do precisely what they want.

I love this! Astronomy, cats and books. What could be better? Just wanted to share. :)

But of course >1 al.vick:, Comets are subject to the LAWS of physics (Newtons & Einsteins)

Of course you can guess the rest...

Think Heisenberg, but even he got it wrong.

Cats are Not subject to ANY LAWS

Cats can fold space. When I open the cheese container in my fridge my cat instantaneously arrives, no matter where she was the second before.

My cats are always front and center when I get cheese out of the fridge. It is funny how much they love little pieces of cheese. They also like kitty treats but I think they like cheese better. However if they find a stale piece later they won't touch it.

My cats must be weird. They are meh to cheese. Now, beef, chicken, or turkey, they're bending time and space to trip me at the counter.

I have a cat that likes Tootsie Rolls and when she hears me opening one will get right in my face to get a bite and won't leave me alone until she gets some.

>6 gilroy: Tastes do vary amongst them just like people. But it could also be the particular cheese. I tried giving one of mine a piece of shredded mozz and she just looked at my hand like ...eh? but I'm pretty sure if I tried to give her some cheddar she'd eat it. The kitten ate a tiny bite I gave her, but she's rather unreliable as she'll eat ANYTHING.

>7 morningwalker: One of my old cats was CRAZY for anything cherry-flavor. Tootsie Pops and Jolly Ranchers were the big favorites, though, if you opened one of those she'd catch a whiff and be all over you, she'd even try to get in your mouth at it!

>8 .Monkey.: My cat has a definite preference for goat cheese. She may occasionally eat a little cheddar, mozzarella or provolone but she begs for goat cheese, even asks for it when I have run out of it. (And like all cats, she has no idea what "no" means.)

Hahaha, the kitten begs for everything, but she (along with the mozz rejector) is super crazy for bread. I go out of my way to buy pricey canned food with NO grain because cats aren't meant to have it, so what do my numbskulls do? Steal bread whenever they can manage!

It's my older girl (15) that really has the cheese radar. She birrups very, very urgently if cheese is being consumed and she isn't getting any. Grated cheddar is her favourite. Sour cream and butter are also required to be shared, and she begs whenever we have toast (we always reserve a little bit of butter on the side of the plate for her). My other 7 year old isn't remotely interested in dairy products, but loves chicken and steak and will actively attempt covert missions to steal them.

>10 .Monkey.: Same here. Bast jumps up on the table and makes off with a slice of bread whenever she gets the chance. Her brother doesn't care for bread at all, but she loves it.

>12 anglemark: Yep you can't leave bread unattended for literally 5 seconds or Lexi has made off with it! Once Hubs had gotten up to get something else from the kitchen real quick, meanwhile she jumped up and ran off with a slice, so he was all Agh! and and went to cut another slice, and was a perfect idiot and gave her another shot and she snagged a second piece also. LOL. We didn't let her eat it all, of course, but I was dying laughing!

Since dairy is awful for their stomachs I don't let them have any at all, just on rare occasion I will let someone have a couple quick licks of a spoon that had been used for sour cream or cottage cheese if they happen to be standing there paying attention.

Mine don't normally go for bread, but last Christmas we left some pannetone (Italian fruit bread) on the counter, and Amy got up on the counter, chewed through the bag, and ate some. She also chewed through the plastic wrapping and ate a chunk of angel food cake the size of her head. Now we cover everything like that with a metal bowl or put it in a cupboard.

Neither of them is very interested in cheese but Amy demands to lick the bowl if yogurt is served.

>12 anglemark:

I love how cats are all so very different. It always amuses me when people say "I don't like cats", as it's like making a blanket statement of "I don't like people".

Mind you, I really don't like people :)

Our oldest actually tends to suffer from constipation and needs fairly frequent laxative paste, so the little bit of dairy she gets most days actually seems to help with her digestion (which, to be honest, might be part of the reason she is drawn to it). Plus, at 15 we feel that the enjoyment she gets from it outweighs any potential negatives (her blood tests are all perfect at the moment, touch wood). We spoke about it with our vet and she seemed to agree.

I guess, like people, they have varying degrees of tolerance for things that aren't technically good for them.

>14 tardis: LOL yes plastic is no deterrent! I wasn't kidding when I said Lexi eats any/everything! We can no longer leave the bag of rat food in the rat area, because Lexi chews it open and shoves her head in and devours it. RAT FOOD! D'oh.

My cats got at some leftover pandoro that was in a couple of layers of saran wrap and then placed in a plastic bag.

I must conclude that, for cats, plastic is less a deterrent than a challenge.

My cat opens her own bag of cat food, or cat treats, or bread, given the chance. She also bends time and space to get to tuna fish, but offer her salmon, and she gives you this look, like, "How do you get so big eating food of this kind?"!!

Finally other cats that love bread! My family thinks my cats are so bizarre because while they'll eat bites of meat or cheese they will get right up in your mouth for bread. Of course, if you give them a larger chunk of bread they get confused and can't/won't eat it.

On odd behavior not food related I have one cat that loves loves loves water to be dripped onto her head, but she hates all faucets/sinks

Taji's name can be added to the 'cats who love bread' register :) & yep I learned that just coz it's still in its plastic doesn't make it safe, lol :) Tilly's not that interested in bread, in fact she ignores most 'human food', but when I occasionally buy crumpets for myself as a treat they both go crazy at me!

3 of my 4 cats love bread :)

One of my boys goes bonkers over certain fruits and veggies. He loves strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, peas, corn, carrots and romaine lettuce. He likes the juice of apples but won't eat them, just licks them dry. Any time I cook with any of those he gets a little treat and the other cats look at him like he's crazy lol

Where all of mine are in agreement is potato chips. You cannot open a bag of chips in my house without four furry faces showing up expecting their share!

Okay, on strangeness, both of my female cats love(d) the brine that green olives come in, but my male cat thinks
that's nuts! I mean they would act they I had given them catnip!

Oh I just remembered that I found Taji with his face in a bowl full of raw oats a couple of months ago, I was about to make porridge but stepped out of the room, usually if I need to leave food out on the bench I either cover with a bowl or encourage the kitties into the hall & then shut the door to the kitchen to be safe, but I didn't think I'd need to protect raw dry oats???

Several years ago while making dinner I put a plate on the countertop next to the stove. When I came back to check the oven and found that Tabby had plated herself—perhaps in anticipation of enjoying my dinner.

>26 Taphophile13: Bahaha!

>19 al.vick: Lol Kuma and Nushie have very different ideas on what constitutes edible fish. Nushie loves salmon (essentially lox) and disregards all else, while Kuma looks at it like ...eh? and loves whitefish.

>24 Seanie: Oats are one of the things in the rat food. ;)
