There will be the rest of a list here at some point before Dec. 31st... :) This sounded like a super interesting idea, and looks like a really cool group.

And since I have over 50 physical books, and even more than that as ebooks that I really should read. Don't know what's gonna be on the list yet, but, I mean, I read so many darn books each year, you'd think that I could read some of the ones that I own and not just the ones from the library. But... the library books have a 'read by date' i.e. due date, and those I own don't... so, we'll see how this goes I guess...

1. Suicide Squad, Vol. 1: Kicked in the Teeth - 01/23/16
2. Tropical Convergence
3. Fingersmith
4. Madam President
5. Postmortem
6. Harmony
7. Of Drag Kings And the Wheel of Fate
8. Fairest of All
9. Womanthology: Space
10. Etched in Shadows
11. Justice League 3000, Vol. 1
12. Do Not Disturb

Ebooks (And possible Substitutions (I have 100 ebooks on my nook just sitting there))

13. Love Waits
14. A Vision of Fire
15. A Clash of Kings - This one is more a finish sort of thing, but I have more than a book plus of it to finish
16. Fated Love
17. Amazonia
18. Melt
19. Stranded
20. Cocaine Blues
21. Brady vs. Manning
22. Meet Me in Atlantis
23. Starting From Scratch
24. No Good Deed - 2/15/16 (Had to read this before the next one came out. It was good :))

I do the same thing. In 2016, I'm limiting myself to 2 library books per month, in the hopes of delving deeply into the books I already own.

Welcome to the group!

Looks like our group's veteran member Art will finally have a fellow graphics novel fan! I believe there's a movie coming about that gang of no-good do-gooders.

>3 Cecrow: Pff I am too! I wouldn't ever put any on my list though as they're too quick of reads to need such prompting. ...Well, unless they're Alan Moore's dreck but, I don't bother touching anything else of his anymore! :P

>3 Cecrow: There is a movie, and it's an actual DC made movie that I'm excited about.

>4 .Monkey.: Most of the rest of them will probably be prose novels, but I have almost an entire shelf of these that I own, (not to mention, I have Volumes 2 and 3 on hold from the library, so I thought I'd give myself an easy one for the start of the year... :))

>2 abergsman: 2 Library books a month. That's impressive. I'm a public librarian, so just walking into my job probably means that I pull two books off the shelf to take home... oops... :))

Oh don't mind me, I didn't mean it as a negative thing or whatnot, we all read differently! For me, GNs are super fast, so I tend to leave them for when I'm not feeling well or like delving into anything substantial for the moment, so it wouldn't make any sense at all to put them on my list. Whereas tons of other stuff gets left sitting around for no real reason and needs prompting, so onto the list it goes! :P But those are my habits, and everyone has their own way of doing & figuring things! :)

Dez. 15, 2015, 3:15 pm

>6 .Monkey.: No worries, I didn't take it as negative at all. And they're super fast for me as well. That's the primary reason that I get them from the library and don't buy them. But, sometimes there's a series, or author, or artist that I love, or I know that the library's never going to get that particular TPB and so I buy 'em when the comic book stores have a sale, or at a con on the last day or whatever. And then, of course, since I own them. They sit on my shelf... oops... :)

Heh, and this list won't have all the tons of unread ebooks that I have on my Nook too... :)

Welcome! The only book on your list that I'm familiar with is Fingersmith as it's on my wishlist. I'll be interested to see what you think of it.

>8 LittleTaiko: I've read Tipping the Velvet, and I've seen parts of Fingersmith. It's been on my shelf to be read for years now, and I do want to read it, so perhaps this'll give me the impetus to actually do that... :)

>7 DanieXJ: Our library is quite hit or miss with comics and graphic novels, often missing a few right in the middle of a series. Wreaks havoc for my daughter, who devours certain comic books rabidly. However, I am just happy they have them at all!

11DanieXJ
Dez. 17, 2015, 3:03 pm

>10 abergsman: Yes, I think that it's pretty hit or miss for most libraries, though some are getting the better. The problem was that not too long ago (years) most the librarians who were picking these books to buy had no earthly clue what they were doing. So they'd look at the description, etc. and this was also when the big two weren't totally great about marking which Volume in which series the book was from (they're still not awesome, but they're definitely much better than they were). And so, they'd see two titles that looked good according to their librarian eye, and those two titles would wind up being Volumes 2 and 7 in the X-Men series, and then Volume 5 in the Uncanny X-Men.

Anyway, I'm eternally grateful for ILL, within the consortium that my libraries belong to, as well as within the state (and if I absolutely have to have a book within the country to a certain extent). Still, if it has the name Gail Simone or Kelly Sue DeConnick (or sometimes Amanda Connor) I just can't help myself, I have to buy it... :D

My daughter is a big GN fan.

13DanieXJ
Dez. 21, 2015, 4:41 pm

>12 billiejean: That's what the librarian in me likes to hear. We GN fans come in all sizes, shapes, colors, genders, etc. etc.

The GN is probably going to be what manages to get me to 400 books read this year too. I have 7 books to go. (And, now that I have a full time job, plus two part time jobs, I'm pretty sure that I'm never going to come close to 400 books again. Though, the round number liker in me likes the idea of reading 500, I think that trying to read 100 more books might kill me... I'll probably go for a sedate 150-200 next year... :))

14.Monkey.
Dez. 21, 2015, 4:44 pm

Haha, and here I won't even count GNs in my totals, they're entirely separate from books! XD

15DanieXJ
Dez. 21, 2015, 4:50 pm

>14 .Monkey.: I've done the math. And I believe that in previous years it's been about a 75%-GN to 25%-prose novels (non-fic and fiction). So... it is what it is. To each their own. :)

Now, if I read a comic issue instead of a comic TPB/GN then I wouldn't count it ('cause it would probably take me about a half an hour or less to read it...)

I have one of the Song of Ice and Fire books on my lists as well (A Game of Thrones for me). George R.R. Martin's popular here (and everywhere!) this year!

Ack... none so far. Suicide Squad, Vol. 1 is sitting on my literal TBR pile (right before the Vol. 2 and 3 from the library), but I have so much other stuff to do. This is gonna be harder than I thought huh... :)

Jan. 14, 2016, 10:16 am

>18 DanieXJ: I always have a difficult time with other books creeping in and taking over. Typically, they are for my two book club books. I had planned on reading two Jhumpa Lahiri books next, but then picked up Euphoria for last night's book club, and plan on starting Goodnight June for my end of the month book club. Looking ahead to my February and March selections, is the slightly large Fates and Furies and Hillary Clinton's tome Hard Choices. Those will all keep me busy for a while!

Sao, I can definitely relate to your dilemma!

Same here. I've unexpectedly won a book from the giveaway here on LT, and I'm going to feel compelled to provide a review once I get it. It happens.

>19 abergsman: >20 Cecrow: Ah, yes, I don't have any book club stuff, but I do have a group writing thing for the internet that's first draft is 'due' tomorrow, and then I too have wayy too many things from Netgalley that are being published, well, next week... and of course, library books always come first... :)

Ah well... it's good to have too much to read. Better than too little I think... :)

The group writing thing sounds interesting. I'm a member of a small critique group where we proofread and comment on each other's work - always brutally honest, but also offer encouragement. I've never been the least bit published but I still mess with it on the side. It's definitely hard to choose sometimes between working through a book I'm reading and working on the book I'm supposed to be writing, lol.

Jan. 17, 2016, 9:33 am

>23 LittleTaiko: I'll probably start reading it the end of this coming week. It's impossible to get from the library, I think I'm currently 133 on the holds list, so I will probably break down and buy it on Amazon.

What do you think of it so far?

25LittleTaiko
Jan. 17, 2016, 6:13 pm

>24 abergsman: - I was not terribly impressed with it. It's fascinating in a way but more like watching a trainwreck - disturbing but you can't help but watch. The characters just didn't feel real to me. However, lots of critics loved it so maybe I'm missing something.

Woo, first one of the year done! And it was just as good as I thought it would be when I bought it, which is always a good thing for me when actually buying books. :)

27Cecrow
Jan. 25, 2016, 7:44 am

Yeah, it's unfortunate how that doesn't always pan out. Especially when it's been taking up space in your house for a year or two. Glad it worked out this time!

Ooh, crap. I just bought three more books. :)

29.Monkey.
Feb. 2, 2016, 5:36 pm

Psh, 32 books came into my house last month! (Granted only 12 of them were bought then, a handful were ordered in Dec and a lot more from the preceding few mos that were shipped to my mom and only arrived to me a few days ago, but... xP)

30DanieXJ
Feb. 2, 2016, 6:10 pm

>29 .Monkey.: :) You have me beat. I'll probably be getting a few more over the weekend at the comic book shop (yay they're having a sale!! Good timing by them... :D). These are all sorta gifts to myself since my family just gets me little things for birthdays now.

Still... doh... I read one, buy three+... this does not compute.

31Cecrow
Feb. 3, 2016, 7:51 am

It's like having two critters on your shoulders, one always wants to collect without any thought of when you'll actually read it, and the other loves doing the reading but sweats if it considers the sheer mass yet to read. I've only picked up one more so far this year, but there's a 2nd one calling me already and so it will continue, all year long.

I really just should have made all of my owned to be read books this year first volumes (or first books) in serieses, because then when I get out the second volume/book in the series I just have to read the first one... :)
