So I'm here to ROOT (READ OUR OWN TOMES) what I already own!

So after much reflection. I've decided to set my goal again in 2016 to 84 - 25 audios, 45 e-books, and 14 ARDs.
Goal:
E-Books/Net Galley 45 Books off my e-readers or NetGalleys downloaded to my Tablet, or Books on my PC Kindle App.
Audio books 25 - Books downloaded to my PC/MP3
ARDs 14 - Books that are already sitting on my shelves or ARCs/ERs awarded to me in 2016.

For every ROOT successfully cleared in 2016 I put $1 in my book bank so that at the end of the year I have money for new books! I already have my wishlist created so before the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve, I will place my order with Barnes & Noble for my e-book acquisitions and will have additional books to count. The book bank total may be added to if I receive any gift cards for Christmas.

Starting Tallies:

Tsundoku (My Unread) = 227
PC Downloads = 120
NOOK = 222
Tablet/Kindle = 56
STARTING ROOT TOTAL = 625

ETA - books I had before 2016 but failed to catalog.

One of my friends called it that when I was sitting reading a real book and I got a good chuckle from it. When you think about it in this day and age, they are antique devices for reading.

OMG!

First the intro image -- did you notice the tiny dot at the bottom of that book well? Yes, that's me.

Second, you are the busiest person I've ever known about. When do you find time to breathe? You're also very organized. I gave up long ago. Only reviewing Tomes (MOTs and otherwise) can I keep track of what I've read. That's the extent of my organizing abilities.

Third, those can't be real grandbabies in your personal profile. Those girls are so beautiful, they must be the very best and most expensive life-like dolls ever handmade.

P.S. Is "ARDs" in the public domain, or do you hold the copyright? I'd love to use the acronym, too.

30cyderry
Feb. 8, 2016, 11:42 pm

>29 Limelite: When I was working my job evaluations always said "highly organized". I don't know how I would survive without my lists.

Yes, I have 5 absolutely beautiful granddaughters and 2 very handsome grandsons, but I am extremely prejudiced. My oldest, Jackson, will be 7 this month and the youngest is 2½. They all live in other states so I don't get to see them as much as I would like, but I try to go for very special occasions - dance recitals, sports events, etc. And of course, Nonna is always send little things, books especially.

As for ARDs - you are more than welcome to use the acronym - Antique reading devices =ARD

Welcome to the group and happy reading!

February crime theme?
The titles sound like it.

45cyderry
Mrz. 12, 2016, 12:13 pm

>44 Henrik_Madsen: I love cozy mysteries and my main effort besides reading my ROOTs is to try to catch up on all the series that I started so yes, I guess there is a crime theme. I actually have a Greek mythology theme for my Category Challenge:
Zeus - god of lightning, thunder, and the heavens - Anything goes!
Athena - Goddess of wisdom - Book based mysteries
POSEIDON - God of the sea and earthquakes COZIES SET BY THE SEA
Aphrodite - Goddess of love and beauty - Favorite authors series
Hermes - God of commerce and travel - Foreign series
Hestia - Goddess of the home and hearth - Crafts/Needlework
Apollo - God of music, poetry, art, sun, light and knowledge - Classics
Eros - God of love, procreation & sexual desire - Romance series
Astraea - The Star Maiden - a goddess of justice - Legal/police mysteries
Clio - Muse of History - HISTORIES 1920'S, DEPRESSION
Dionysus - God of wine and pleasure - Wine and cheese mysteries
Demeter - Goddess of the Harvest - Culinary Mysteries
Hephaestus - God of blacksmiths, craftsmen, artisans - Home Improvements/Repair and B&Bs
Hebe - Goddess of youth - Young Adult series
Eos - Goddess of the Dawn - Firsts in new series
Antheia - Goddess of gardens, flower - LILIES Ladies book group, ROOTS, garden mysteries
I've started so many series (150+) so I need something to not only keep me reading the books I already own, but to keep me reading the series I already started. Tickers have been a big help over the years but themes tend to keep me focused.

How about you? Do you tend to have a theme for your reading?

46Henrik_Madsen
Mrz. 12, 2016, 1:37 pm

I merely went by the titles wich seemed rather crime-like.

I have never been very good at themes or series for that matter. Crime series especially seem to become repetitive after 5-10 issues. The good ideas are used and the pressure to put out a new novel for every christmas season isn't helping either - so I haven't finished many series.

But I do have one theme. I like to read classics and to help that on the way I every year read a book published 200, 150, 100, 75, 50 and 25 years ago.

Sometimes that's also an opportunity to do some ROOTing - or some planting... ;-)

Well, I have good news and bad news ---
Good News - I finally finished moving all my books to my little library and tagged them for their location so that I know exactly what shelf each book is on, however, during this process I discovered 18 books that had not been previously cataloged so now I have 18 more ROOTs than I thought.

I'm not sure to be happy or not. I'm going with HAPPY!!!

Below you can see my little sanctuary - the shelves are mostly two books deep but some places three books deep and then I have a beautiful old desk for my laptop next to my own TV that I don't have to share with hubby, and then my comfy old recliner with my needlework lamp.

I foresee many happy hours in my beautiful library considering that there are over 600 books waiting to be read!

>70 cyderry: You should definitely be happy - especially if some of the 18 books are forgotten gems. And the chair / reading corner looks so comfortable!

>81 avanders: Sorry I didn't answer sooner - things have been crazy!

Drape Expectations is part of the Caprice DeLuca Mystery series by Karen Rose Smith.
Caprice is an interior designer who specializes in staging for sale. I really enjoy the series, the characters and the decorating tips and recipes.
The first book in the series is called Staged to Death

I am slightly boggled (although not entirely surprised) that there actually exists a book called Princess and the Penis.
