"I've very sorry, but you have to die"

Some time ago I came across a description of the ENTJ type that said, "The ENTJ's motto could be, 'I'm very sorry, but you have to die.'"

This got me and a bunch of my students working on developing corresponding mottos for other types. I don't remember all of them, or even if we did all of them, but they ran something like this:

ENTJ: "I'm very sorry, but you have to die."

INTJ: "I don't understand why someone hasn't executed you already."

ESTJ: "You there, kill him."

ISTJ: "I have completed all the paperwork for your execution."

INTP: "Wow, what a cool guillotine."

ENFP: "What does one wear to an execution?"

ESFP: "We can do it with a pirate theme! I'll get the balloons."

ISFP: "I"m going to make a collage in your memory."

INFP: "I've very sorry, but ... hey, look at that butterfly!"

INFJ: "Your execution will teach others a valuable lesson."

ISFJ: "I promise to look after your children."

"Wow, what a cool guillotine!"

And may I say, hallelujah! Someone else started a thread. I was starting to get a complex. INTJs are reluctant leaders.

I cam across a website that states a good motto for an ENTP (which I am) is:
"Nothing ventured, nothing gained." Probably, true.

INFP: "I've very sorry, but ... hey, look at that butterfly!"

That is a cool looking butterfly and look at its... Oh man, something smells like baked cookies. It smells just like the ones my Grandma used to bake. She lived on this great old farm. My cousins and I used to have so much fun in the barn. I remember this one time my cousin Jeff and I made forts out of hay bails and had a corn cob fight. Those things would really sting when they hit you... Although I think worst pain I've ever felt in my life was when I broke my hand and had to drive myself to the doctor... ooooow, now look at the flower the butterfly is sitting on...

I think.. I'm dead of laughing now. This is so, so dead on. See me continuing to use the word dead? I like to keep to the theme. *grin* Seriously, it's pretty much dead on for what I'd say. INFJs are peaceful, mercy loving people who will condone your execution if it is truly called for on the basis of justice being done and the betterment of society. They'll feel sad you died, and wish there was another way, but ultimately go ahead with it.

Of all of them, though, I think the ENTJ is my all time favorite.

Heh, I took a few of those online tests listed in the other thread today, and I got INTP, INTJ, and INFP (nothing like consistency)... but from this I'd definitely have to go with INTJ. Oh yes. Including the *bang* mentioned above. But fyi, just in case I'm ever your executioner, it is quite possible to distract me by drawing my attention to the cool guillotine :)

Actually those are all pretty close with I and N pretty definite and 2 out of 3 for both T and P. Did you look at the description for INTP? Do you tend to like closure or do you hate to make a decision?

antqueen, an INTP likes to study things and can be very thorough in collecting information and finding cool uses and applications. The difference with an INTJ is that everything has to already have a use, even if the goal is indirect or remote in time or space. INTJs study and collect all for the purpose of application, there's always a goal. The goal is paramount, not the study. With INTPs I think study is rewarding in itself. INTPs are much freer that way. INFPs are dreamy and sensitive both to their own feelings and those of others, they really value harmony and see the best in all people. You'll never mistake an INTJ for INFP because of the compassion/sensitivity/caring dimension. NTs are all function first, people second. NFs are people first.

#12... yes :) I hate decisions, and I like closure. Well, not really true... what I hate is forced and rushed decisions. I sometimes agonize over the stupidest things, but once they're made, they're made and I stop thinking about them.

#13, I do considerably better with a goal, but I don't need it. Sometimes I'll make a goal just to give me a "reason" for the study... there isn't really a use, and that doesn't bother me. As for the all people/function first... while I realize intellectually that one can be that way, I don't really understand it. Sometimes function trumps people, and sometimes it's the other way around.

In all seriousness, the variety of answers is accurate. I don't think the Myers-Briggs divisions are in a useful place for me... I'm right on the border for both T/F and P/J. I tend to get in the 50%s-low 60%s for both when the tests show that. I'm a bit more more T than F, I suspect, but the P/J is so close it's just not useful. I like schedules, and I like spontaneity. I make plans if I feel like it; I like to have them, but it doesn't bother me not to follow them or to change them on whim. I like routine, and I also like the lack of it. I'll happily spend hours organizing my office closet, but I can barely see the surface of my desk. ::shrugs::

Maybe, antqueen, what you are is an evolved human being who defies categorization. ;-) But I suspect you're a Rational.

Don't ever expect a simple answer from me; I tend to explain every little detail of my line of reasoning to make really sure I have made myself understood. If I don't succeed at first, I will try again using an even longer explanation. I'm an ISTJ, and I do enjoy filling out forms. A Vogon would ask me to lay back and relax. :-)

Rational is NT? Yeah, I think I am, though it's not terribly strong. Every once in a while I'll even get an S in one of those tests.

sm5por, I'm glad I'm not the only one... if that does happen to be an ISTJ trait, then it's definitely bled over into my IN-ness ;) You can have the forms, though ;)

I'm sure that ENFP and INFP are backwards here. ENFP would definitely be "i'm very sorry but... hey look at that butterfly!" (reminds me of the ENFP prayer which ends in "...oh look, a bird!, whereas the ESTJ is offering God tips on how to run the place) whereas an INFP would be more likely to worry about what to wear to the execution.

As an INFJ I agree with seimeis. 'Your execution will teach a valuable lesson to others' is exactly what I would think; I would make a reluctant executioner but no doubt my concern for the 'greater good' would win out. Meanwhile, I can imagine my ENFJ brother saying something like 'Welcome to the guillotine, tonight's lucky victim is...'

How would an ENTP respond?

#18 - Yes I agree at least partially - I was thinking of the ENFP prayer too and thought "hey look at that butterfly" was definitely an ENFP thing. However I don't know that an INFP would be concerned about what to wear either. They are deeper than all that.

I'm not as certain about the second, but that's more of my "at work" personality than what I am usually like.

I am an ISTP and I don't see a motto for my type. I guess I have to come up with one myself.

ISTP: "You'll get a sword to fight hungry lions in the arena!"

If that is INFP then the tests I took came out wrong. My mind is more like Jean Valjean from, Les Misérables. I normally have a torturous debate going in my head.
