Hello, everybody. I started this group, simply because I was looking for it but could not find it. If you know people who collect antique books, please invite them to join. We need members for this group to become interesting! I think the subject can be promising.

There is a group called Antiquarian Books, but it is nearly dormant. I hope more will join and we can get a few discussions rolling!

In the bookselling and book collecting field in the U.S. with which I am familiar, antiquarian is the preferred term. For example, there is the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America (ABAA.org).

The antique term is less precise because it might have a vague connection with the kinds of books you find in an antique seller's inventory (often not very old at all) or with some 100+ year-old vintage. Though, as I read the description of this new group, I think the latter idea was in mind.

A new group may spawn some new conversations and activity. I can visualize some threads like: "Show us your oldest book" or "What is your favorite pre-1900 book in your collection?"

Obviously "old" does not make a book valuable. Condition, supply and demand are more important factors.

Hopefully the new year brings out new and interesting conversations in this new group.
