It is with a heavy heart that I am passing on the news that Alan Rickman has died. He was 69. I thought we might want a thread to share the Snape love.

Share your favorite Rickman roles, thoughts, etc.

I'll be in the corner trying not to cry. :'(

So sad. I really thought he would be one of those actors we'd be seeing onscreen well into his nineties, that he would play Dumbledore in twenty years or so when they decide to remake Harry Potter. Such a loss.

I spent a few hours this morning refusing to believe it.

I was really sorry to hear of the passing of such a wonderful and talented actor. I absolutely loved him as Metatron in Dogma and will be watching the film tonight in his honor. Snape lives on in my heart.

Sad, sad, sad.

There was never anyone else who could have played Severus Snape. Superb actor and by all accounts a lovely man as well. What with Lemmy and David Bowie it's been a bad couple of weeks for British cultural figures.

He had so many wonderful roles. I love him as Severus, but also as the Sheriff of Nottingham, as Colonel Brandon, as Alexander Dane, and so many others. He breathed life into so many interesting characters.

Give me an occupation, Miss Dashwood, or I shall go mad.

Just watched Dogma last night with Rickman as Metatron, superb as always.

Bethany: I don't want this, it's too big.

Metatron: That's what Jesus said. Yes, I had to tell him. And you can imagine how that hurt the Father - not to be able to tell the Son Himself because one word from His lips would destroy the boy's frail human form? So I was forced to deliver the news to a scared child who wanted nothing more than to play with other children. I had to tell this little boy that He was God's only Son, and that it meant a life of persecution and eventual crucifixion at the hands of the very people He came to enlighten and redeem. He begged me to take it back, as if I could. He begged me to make it all not true. And I'll let you in on something, Bethany, this is something I've never told anyone before... If I had the power, I would have.
