My self-imposed rule for this group is that the book had to be acquired at least one year before I decide to read it. Under some pressure LOL, I made a goal of 13 books. I too get distracted by all the new books, or books and series that I have just discovered.
Books finished in 2016
01. Clan of The Cave Bear by Jean Aule, acq. 01/2011
02. Main Street by Sinclair Lewis, acq. 09/2011
03. Dune by Frank Herbert, acq. 08/2013
04. Beautiful Darkness by Garcia/Stohl, acq. 03/2013
05. The Lost Gardens by Anthony Eglin, acq. 03/2013
06. The Weed That Strings the Handman's Bag by Alan Bradley, acq. 02/2011
07. The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde, acq 02/2009
08. Buried In A Bog by Sheila Connolly, acq 10/2014

Welcome to the group!
Each person here has joined because they have a pile of books that have been waiting to be read. Me personally, I have 200+ actual books, 100+ audiobooks, and nearly 300 digital books that are screaming for me to read them. I set my challenge so that I will read a portion of each of these types of books trying to average 7 books a month.
You need to decide for yourself how many you think you can read in 2016. Once you make that determination, hopefully you will create a ticker on our ticker thread. Then let everyone know how you are progressing through the month.
You've made a good start.
Good luck and happy reading!

Welcome to the group and happy rooting! It looks like you have already read some great reads.

I never set counts for myself anymore. If that's a requirement, then I will back out of the group. No problem.

Would it help to consider the count as simply a placeholder for yourself on the group ticker? It would not have to be a big number, just a number. You're doing very well, with three books read already in January, so you could perhaps set a small placeholder goal of 10. Then once you've passed that number, any "extras" will be donated to the group total. I do that myself -- I set a number I know I will reach and donate the extras to the group.

>7 rabbitprincess: I do the same thing, donating my extra ROOTs to the group total. My goal is 36 ROOTs but I know I can read more than 36 books in a year (last year I read 75). And just like RP says, it's just a number. If you don't make it we won't be mad or anything :-))
Come on, just give it a try! We will be cheering all the way.

I do too! That's why the books multiply. A book sale or free books on offer...I'm there...

OK, you win! I picked 13 books. I will hopefully go over that :) I also placed it on the group ticker thread.

>11 bumblesby: lol ;)
I also goal on the "you can definitely do this" side -- then any extras just help the group accomplish their goal!

You're doing great!

I am not going to make my goal. I just can't resist reading my more recently purchased books. I may be able to make one more before year's end. Sorry :(
24avanders
>22 bumblesby: it happens! Just keep trying & be happy that any progress is still progress! :)

>22 bumblesby: Avanders is right. Progress is progress, regardless of how many or how few of your older titles you read. I think a lot of us continue to bring strays home (but Mom! All twelve of them FOLLOWED me. You can't make me turn them away now!) and that's as wonderful as reading one that's been on a shelf for years. A good book is a delight regardless. And today's stray is next year's 'this was SO good, I can't believe I let it sit for so long.' BTW, you've got some dynamite ROOTs under your belt. Good work!
26rabbitprincess
Yes, and what's important is that you're enjoying what you're reading from whatever source! :)

Hey everyone. I think I may make my goal after all! I just finished a short mystery today and am working on a longer book but it is middle-grade so it reads fast. Then I only need one more.
