I am waiting for you to start a new round of the game. Take a wild guess please. What is my word?

5-syllable adverb, often followed
by the phrase ". . .Why not NOW?" ?

I'm sitting here calmly and not worrying about winning. How much of "heroically" are we rhyming with?

I am so happy to see this thread is having enthusiastic followers who all seem to love playing Crambo as much as me. I really thought it went to sleep forever. For a long time, nobody showed up even though I spent so much energy rallying for more players. It is wonderful to see you all here and I hope you will stay for a while.

2. I have an image of you sitting leisurely in a throne. Are you happy or melancholy when you think of philosophy?

3. My immediate response is mommy, but it is not an adverb. It also has only two syllables. Were you thinking of absentmindedly, deliberately, frenetically, inquisitively, unexpectedly, or unnaturally?

4. My word nearly rhymes with heroically. As long as your guesses end with ee sound, you won't receive a spanking from me.

Not: leisurely, happy, melancholy, philosophy, absentmindedly, deliberately, frenetically, inquisitively, unexpectedly, unnaturally.

6Jim53
Apr. 22, 2016, 8:30 pm

My guess in #4 rhymes with all of heroically except the first syllable. Zeno would get it right away.

7HumalaHumas
Apr. 23, 2016, 9:36 am

6. Would Zeno knowingly say the answer is "stoically?"

Not: knowingly, stoically, leisurely, happy, melancholy, philosophy, absentmindedly, deliberately, frenetically, inquisitively, unexpectedly, unnaturally

8rolandperkins

I donʻt think itʻs the Crambo! word, but
the guess of #3 does not yet appear in
the "nots".

8. Is it rather unusual to have only an adverb before the complete sentence "why not now?" The sentence is a complete thought so I am able to imagine it as an independent clause for a longer sentence introduced by a noun phrase such as "oh honey, why not now?" "dear friend, why not now?" or "my perpetually mad monster, why not now?"

How does an adverb fit in there? I simply can't wait for you to show me later.

Were you thinking of unfortunately, agonizingly, excruciatingly, irritatingly, inadequately, unsuccessfully, inappropriately, immediately, instantaneously, momentarily, expeditiously, approximately, superveniently, anticipatively, illogically, irrationally, unreasonably, or preposterously?

Not: unfortunately, agonizingly, excruciatingly, irritatingly, inadequately, unsuccessfully, inappropriately, immediately, instantaneously, momentarily, expeditiously, approximately, superveniently, anticipatively, illogically, irrationally, unreasonably, preposterously, knowingly, stoically, leisurely, happy, melancholy, philosophy, absentmindedly, deliberately, frenetically, inquisitively, unexpectedly, unnaturally

". . .only an adverb before the complete sentence
"why not now" (3, 9)

Maybe the 4 word expression beginning with
the 5-syllable adverb __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __
isnʻt, after all, so common
as I thought. Come to think of it, itʻs been
decades since I last heard it.

additional hint: the adverb starts with a 5-letter
abstract noun.

Don't worry, Roland, he'll get to it .....

12HumalaHumas
Apr. 24, 2016, 5:10 pm

10. The adverb "eventually" seems to satisfy all the requirements with 5 syllables, and 10 letters. The first 5 letters "event" is an abstract noun. I am not sure if "eventually" is what you had in mind. It is not my word though.

Not: eventually, unfortunately, agonizingly, excruciatingly, irritatingly, inadequately, unsuccessfully, inappropriately, immediately, instantaneously, momentarily, expeditiously, approximately, superveniently, anticipatively, illogically, irrationally, unreasonably, preposterously, knowingly, stoically, leisurely, happy, melancholy, philosophy, absentmindedly, deliberately, frenetically, inquisitively, unexpectedly, unnaturally

13rolandperkins

"...the adverb ʻeventuallyʻ ". . . (3, 12)

Thatʻs the one!

14HumalaHumas
Bearbeitet: Apr. 24, 2016, 7:35 pm

You are kidding me.

It is a very intriguing way of expressing oneself, but you have mentioned earlier that your sentence is uncommon. "Eventually, why not now?" is as uncommon as it gets.

15rolandperkins
Apr. 24, 2016, 11:48 pm

"Eventually, why not now?" (3, 14)
I believe it was, decades ago, a well-known
advertising maxim. (I forget for what product).
I suppose it was said
to generalize about anything that is going
to be done, or adapted, soon or later and
might as well be done now.

A really nice guess. The Epicureans' arch rivals were stoics according to the legends, but stoics were not what I had on my mind.

Thank you for responding, louminus. Were you thinking of "happily?" My word is a noun.

Not: happily, delightfully, eventually, unfortunately, agonizingly, excruciatingly, irritatingly, inadequately, unsuccessfully, inappropriately, immediately, instantaneously, momentarily, expeditiously, approximately, superveniently, anticipatively, illogically, irrationally, unreasonably, preposterously, knowingly, stoically, leisurely, happy, melancholy, philosophy, absentmindedly, deliberately, frenetically, inquisitively, unexpectedly, unnaturally

Is it something "quirkily unusual" and therefore the
noun __ __ __ __ __ __ __ ?

Nice guess, Roland. Anomaly, mystery, novelty, fantasy, flighty, or cockney is not my word.

It is taking forever to finish this round. I am wondering if I should reveal the secret word on the thread. It is becoming harder for me to figure out what you are guessing and I would like to move on to a new round for a fresh start with someone else leading us.

Not: anomaly, mysery, novelty, fantasy, flighty, cockney, happily, delightfully, eventually, unfortunately, agonizingly, excruciatingly, irritatingly, inadequately, unsuccessfully, inappropriately, immediately, instantaneously, momentarily, expeditiously, approximately, superveniently, anticipatively, illogically, irrationally, unreasonably, preposterously, knowingly, stoically, leisurely, happy, melancholy, philosophy, absentmindedly, deliberately, frenetically, inquisitively, unexpectedly, unnaturally

Welcome to the thread, sheisinplainview. Allow me to remind everyone one more time that my word is a noun, not an adjective please. There seem to be too many answers to your guess. It is not inescapably, unpreventably, or inevitably.

I don't know how it can be both at the
same time, but there are at least two English
nouns that come from a Latin adverb: "item"
(from Latin item: "likewise"
and "prose" (from Latin prorsus: "Straightforwardly".)

(However, I couldn't make any sense of a sentence "---------, why not now?")

The "----------, why not now?" word was
"eventually", which I donʻt think can be
taken for noun/adverb.

Someone - anyone - help out and point me to where the current game began, i.e. which post?

46Jim53
Nov. 8, 2016, 8:06 am

>45 Tid: I'm interpreting it this way: Roland gave a clue that was an adverb early on, and there were several references to adverbs, which gave the impression that Crambo's word was an adverb. But HH has said that it's a noun, and that's what I followed in post #44. HumalaHumas can you clarify/confirm? Is Crambo's word a noun?

Sorry for the extended absence. It has been so long since the start of the thread, I have unfortunately forgotten the secret word myself. Were the last ten or so posts held back and released only earlier this morning? Strangely, I didn't see them when I returned to the forum last evening to review your answers. Thank you all so much for participating. I will think more of what my original secret word was and respond to your guesses individually soon.

After reviewing the little poems I wrote for you, I am able to remember what is my secret word again. I strongly urge you to reread those hints if you haven't done so already. They are helpful.

Tid: Were you thinking of Coventry? It is not my word, neither are melodically, strangely, oddly, and anomaly.

Jim53: The area surrounding the altar is the sanctuary. Nice guess, but it is not the right answer.

Roland: It is not the study of history.

The secret word is a noun, not an adverb.

Not: melodically, Coventry, sanctuary, inescapably, unpreventably, inevitably, uakari, ancestry, family, anomaly, mystery, novelty, fantasy, flighty, cockney, happily, delightfully, eventually, unfortunately, agonizingly, excruciatingly, irritatingly, inadequately, unsuccessfully, inappropriately, immediately, instantaneously, momentarily, expeditiously, approximately, superveniently, anticipatively, illogically, irrationally, unreasonably, preposterously, knowingly, stoically, leisurely, happy, melancholy, philosophy, absentmindedly, deliberately, frenetically, inquisitively, unexpectedly, unnaturally
