Some lucky book collectors' families are supportive of our habits, some .... not so much.

This conversation recently occurred:

My sister: "Do you still have all your old books?"
Me: "Oh, yes!" ... preparing for a rare and wonderful book discussion, which my family is not exactly known for. And then:
My sister: "I burned all mine."
Me: ** blank stare **
My sister: "They make great fire starter, nice and dry."
My wife: (enthused voice here) "That's what I'm going to do with his some day!"
Me: ..... "Who are you people?!?"

Twilight zone creepy!

Though I find myself in a compromised position this month, beginning the clean out of my father's home.
My dad might not be moving back in - he's been in hospital for several months and probably cannot live alone any more. My goal was to make several of the rooms navigable for his weakened state and for a caregiver, just in case.
Serious hoarding, and much of it is public library discards. Piles and piles of wonderful old magazines, which I haven't disturbed. They are mostly piled along the steps going into the basement. Bags of old paperbacks which he set down here and there and promptly forgot about. I doubt he'll register that the old romance books are gone.

>1 Cecrow: How horrid! I'd put my precious books under lock & key if I had people like that in my life!
