Just a heads-up about 2 great used book sales at the end of July:

Newberry Library's 32nd Annual Book Fair: Thu-Sun, July 28-31: https://www.newberry.org/2016-book-fair

and the same weekend:

Friends of the Oak Park Library Sale: Fri night & Sat, July 29 & 30: http://oppl.org/get-involved/friends-library/annual-book-fair

Imagine--in one weekend I'll get all that book-buying out of my system for the rest of the year (yeah, right).

Save some money for the following weekend, when the AAUW has its used book sale in Lombard: http://lombard-il.aauw.net/booksale/

It's not the money, it's the room on the shelves! :(

I get that. I'm missing the Newberry and Oak Park sales, but don't feel too sad for me - I'll be in Venice.

I don't know if I'll traipse out to Lombard, but there's always the Hyde Park - Kenwood Community Conference book sale on Columbus Day weekend to which to look forward.

I never knew about any of these book things that happened in the city -- until being on another continent! No fair! Ah well, at least I get to go to one or two things/year here.

Yay Venice! My favorite place in Italy (of the half-dozen visited), and just plain one of my top 5. :D

I know I will. .Monkey., it's one of my favorite places in the entire world! Last time I was there, I discovered the Libreria Acqua Alta, which has maze-like space and cats, as do all good used book stores, but also stashes books in gondolas. Very fun.

This time, I'm going specifically to see a production of The Merchant of Venice, being held outdoors in the Campo di Ghetto Nuovo, in observance of the 500th anniversary of the establishment of the ghetto.

Venice is out for me now, but we had many happy visits there.
