TBSL wanted - looking for specific themes.

Tea parties, countryside, country houses, romances, family saga type/comedy of manners, books featuring WWI, masquerades, theater, cats, 20s motorcars or women during WWI. Books must be published 1900s-1950s.

The Williamsburg series by Elswyth Thane is excellent. It tells the story of four interconnected families in the US and England, from the Revolutionary War to World War II. Each book takes place during or leading up to a war, and includes at least one romance. Do watch the film too. It is faithful and delightful.

E. F. Benson's "Mapp and Lucia" novels, originally published in the 20s and 30s, might be up your alley. They're comedy-of-manners stuff, with abundant country houses, tea parties, and the occasional 20s motor car. Not sure about cats, though.

Save for it having come out in 1966, I'd suggest R. F. Delderfield's A Horseman Riding By (published in the US as two volumes), which traces the lives of a British family from the end of the Boer War to the Dunkirk evacuation in in 1940 . . .

I really enjoyed THe Making of a Marchioness and am currently re-reading Miss Pettigrew LIves For a Day. Wasn't that crazy about Mariana, but plenty of folks really like it.
