How Would You Categorise These Books?

Hi, I'm a perpetual reader of investment books and am unsure how to categorise certain types. For example: financial market history. Specifically, Tulipmania: Money, Honor, and Knowledge in the Dutch Golden Age. Should this book fall under History, Biography, both or something different? For now I've gone simply with Narrative after a bit of Google searching. The same might be said for Michael Lewis' book, Liar's Poker and Janet Gleeson's, The Moneymaker. They are each about a real person, yet but also about a point in time or significant event(s). Akin to this I'm reading books about past financial bubbles and am looking for a suitable genre to classify them within my main Investment Genre. I thought I'd ask for any suggestions. Thanks.

Do you mean how to shelve them or how to tag them? I have trouble sometimes determining a tag for a book & usually end up choosing by whether the book seems largely more history than biography or vice versa. And on one hand I tend to shelve books with the same subject together even if some are tagged "history", some "sociology", etc. & on the other I use tags to find a given book so I added another tag "shelved with similar books" in that case.

Hi blue, tagging as a genre. On my literal shelf they will sit within investment arranged by author.

Would you not give in & use multiple tags for a book? "Wall Street, autobiography", "investment, bubble, history" e.g.? Your library is at the moment small enough that you could do this without creating a tags page too cluttered to be handy.

I agree with >4 bluepiano:; use multiple tags. It's a rare book in my catalog that has only one.

Why not just classify them as "Financial Bubbles"? That's one of my tags on Tulipomania and the most relevant for your purposes.

Multiple Tags is correct, of course. But...

I did find the answer to my Genre challenge. The correct genre (according to Google) for my Investment Narratives of history would be 'Histiography'.

So the Genre flow chart would read as such: Non-Fiction > Narrative > Historigraphy.
Thematic: Investment.
Subject: John Law.
