I originally signed up for ravelry just to test it out for my mom, who's been crocheting for 40-some years and wanted a way to organize all her crochet stuff, but she isn't very web savvy. After checking the site out for a few days, I kept the account for myself and learned how to crochet!

I do have some crocheting books, but was unable to put them on my empty shelves in Ravelry.

Right now I am reading a book by P.D. James: Death in Holy Orders and am going to knit wrist-warmers for our daughter. I also have to finish a knitted Snowman and just finished a crocheted baby bunny.

I've only been knitting for a few years so knitting books make up a fairly small percentage of my library but I keep adding more and more.

I have the same name here as on Ravelry. If only I could read nad knit at the same time - I'm just not that talented. I just picked up Run by Ann Patchett and Into the Wild by jon krakauer from the library, and am knitting a baby sweater for a friend due in January.

I didn't even think about putting my knitting books here.

Having been on Ravelry for all of 24 hours, I promptly rushed back here to see if there was an LT group about it, and lo, there was. I'm Silvernfire there and here (address at end of post because it's not formatting properly--hmph).

I played with Ravelry's book section first, of course. Darn it, LT has spoiled me for what I expect of an online catalog!

I've been knitting and crocheting since childhood. I've slowed down in the past few months due to throwing my energies into grad school and work, but I'm hoping to rev up again next year once we're out of the holidays. After all, if I don't finish a sweater soon, I will freeze to death in my refriger...uh, office.

#7: Yes, that reading and knitting skill would be useful. I have many subtitled DVDs I'd enjoy knitting during, except that reading subtitles and knitting does not work for me.

I've been watching lots of dvds while crocheting for Christmas. Today I broke down and put several books on CD on reserve at my local library...

I've been knitting for over 10 years now, but don't really do anything with crochet. I'm concentrating on an ivory pullover sweater for myself at the moment.

I'm between books right now, but next will likely be "Collapse" by Jared Diamond or "Dancing with Werewolves" by Carole Nelson Douglas. We'll see which falls into my hands first.

I have a collection of books and patterns going back to World War II, which is when I started knitting. Knitting, crochet, needlepoint, weaving, tons of stuff.

Trying to figure out this whole thing and put it together.

Fortunately my branch library is full of enthusiastic Ravelry and LT users, so we should figure this out soon.

Diane: I love the vintage patterns! I made the cutest little toddler "swim suit", which is really a little halter top and shorts, from a 1940s pattern. I need to post it on ravelry, but I have to get pictures from my cousin first (it was for her daughter). Glad to see you here (and there!).

It's been a long time since my mother cared to knit. So when I was helping her clean her house and ran across some knitting booklets from the 1940s and 1950s she was happy to let me take them. I was ecstatic to get my hands on them!

I've found that some of these vintage pattern booklets are getting registered in the Ravelry library, but none of mine have been yet. I think it depends on whether they can find the right supporting material, like cover photos.

I'm MomLes on Ravelry. Love it. I work part-time at a LYS and have Ravelry up on the computer all day so I can show people what they can do with an interesting yarn, or get details like gauge, length in a skein, or recommended needles when the label doesn't have the info (like Misti yarns).

I am onyx95 on Ravelry also. I really think I am going to enjoy this site, I just got my invite so I haven't gotten to explore the whole site yet.

I'm geoknitter on Ravelry - really have not done much over there- sporadically enter stuff on LT- lately work, kid and other demands keep the knitting/spinning/weaving activity very limited- At least I can look at the books and think about new projects. Too much mandatory computer time with work and volunteer stuff to even think about blogging.

I just got on Ravelry and this and LT are things I can get into I can now (sort of relate to the myspace phemomen). I am Chelidona on both sites. But I am still just a beginner with this stuff. After reading Sephanie Pearl-Mcphee's cast off I know I need more social contacts knitting. Thanks.

Hi I'm dlwc58 on Ravelry, same as here. I'm new to Ravelry, and even more new here (this is my first post!)
I just love Ravelry. I've been involved in a swap already, found some fun patterns to start using up some stash yarn, met some great people...Even found a pug group there (for those that don't have pugs, I might explain that if you have pugs in your house, all your yarn will contain "special" fibres - pug fur...they shed like mad. It's always good, when involved in a swap, to trade with another pug owner...they UNDERSTAND the fawn coloured fibres sticking out of the project they receive).

I found LT through bookmooch.com, which is fast becoming another addition. My one "complaint" of that site would be there are almost no knitting/crochet related books to mooch! Oh well, the more it grows, right?

Anyhow, that's enough from me for now. I'm glad to have found this place!

My latest projects are simple one - knitted scrunchies, "knitted kitty" and a pink & black headband. My next big project will be a felted purse - or tso I'm trying to get myself nerved up to make socks...Just starting is the toughest part. Knitting that first sock is like facing an icy-cold swimmin' hole...

Oh, we'll happily walk you through sock knitting, tee hee. It's pretty addictive. I knit them like crazy and I'm not even a sock wearer.

I'm so excited to see a Ravelry community here -- I just found LibraryThing and have been on Ravelry for a while now!

I adore reading ya fantasy (among other things), and one of my favorite things to do in the evenings is curl up with my socks and a good book.
I'm working on some stockings that are part of a contest that my yarn shop is having, as well as a sweater that I have been working on for a while now but have no motivation to finish while it's so bloody hot outside!

Hey everyone! I'm fasciknitting on Ravelry as well as here. I learned about LT from ravelry and love both sites dearly :)

I've been knitting for about 4 years and reading for about 20 (haha), and really have a hard time figuring out how to engage in both equally. It seems like I can't find a balance - but right now I'm doing all right, I suppose.

mldg: I'm reading Thyme of Death by Susan Wittig Albert right now! It's pretty cool, because right now I live in Austin (which is around where Albert's book is set). I say "right now" because I'm moving to New Hampshire in just a couple of weeks. I'm really enjoying the book, though!

One of the fascinating things about Thyme of Death and the other China Bayles mysteries is the small town Texas setting. Albert really makes it come alive. I think the books get better as they progress in the series, too. Bloodroot is my favorite.

Oh, lucky you! You get to be in New England in autumn, beautiful fall foliage, crisp autumn leaves crunching underfoot on a cool sunny day. I'm so envious.

I agree with you about the small town setting - and I also enjoyed the characters that Albert created. Plus, I love herb gardens, so I ate all of that stuff up. I plan on reading the rest in the series!

And about being in New England: yes! I have been so excited about a New England autumn... we actually just moved in this past Wednesday so I'm definitely settling in and getting ready for the leaves changing and the snow a-falling this winter. I'm stocking up my rav queue to get ready for it!

Do you make all of your socks with two circs? I've always used dpns, but I hear the circ method is faster.

I also see that you're from Maine. We're neighbors! I am brand new to New Hampshire. Maine is so beautiful though... my boyfriend and I were actually planning on moving to Maine and not NH, but it seemed harder to find jobs and places to live in Maine. Maybe one day we'll retire up there :)

Welcome to the neighborhood :) As much as I have always loved Maine, you were probably right to choose NH because the job market and housing here are major issues.

As for socks, I knit sock on 2 circs, on dpns or using magic loop on one 47 inch circ. All 3 methods have a place and I am glad I learned them all. If I had to choose a favorite it would be magic loop method of 2 socks at the same time.

It's been rather a disappointment that I can't get all my books on to the shelf at Ravelry - LT has totally spoiled me! I check every now and then, and can get a few more each time, but it's SO SLOOOW ...

There is a way to get your librarything books to ravelry, but I haven't figured it out yet. I'm confused because it seems like it will transfer my whole catalog, and I don't want that, only my needlework books.

If it involves exporting my LT library to a spreadsheet, I suppose you would have to edit the spreadsheet in Excel afterwards, to cull out the non-needlework stuff (a lot, I have over 3,000 books). One of these days ...

The LT export does include your tags. Once in the spreadsheet, it was easy to use the tags to isolate the books I wanted to put into Ravelry.

Yeah, I know. Especially since I tag all needlework books with the tag CRAFT, in addition to a more specific tag like Knitting or Crochet.

I'm pricejc03 on Ravelry too. I've been knitting for about 5 years now and going through huge piles of books for much longer than that. I'm a bit distracted when it comes to my knitting and therefore always have at least 3 or 4 projects on the needles at once. Currently, I've got a hat, a shrug, a tank top, and a pair of socks.

I'm working on the Modular Felted Tote Bag at the moment (for Ravelympics) and listening to Dead and Gone by Charlaine Harris on my Ipod. I just finished reading Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde on my Nook and will be starting Cat Playing Cupid by Shirley Rousseau Murphy later tonight (on the Nook). The book I'm reading at lunchtime is Carl Honore's In Praise of Slowness. I like variety. :-)

I'm a crocheter as you can tell by looking at my library. (that's all that i put in there - my pattern books! ) '

I grew up reading all the time, always walking around, bumping into things with my nose in a book. My favorites were Nancy Drew and Harriet The Spy. Five years ago and previous I got into Stephen King A LOT and now it's crochet pattern books. Yikes. I do believe I'm a crochet-aholic (for now)

Man aren't we lucky we get Ravelry and LT.

I love both... reading, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, gardening, cooking and yarn stashing... if that is a hobby. I love reading and crafting makes me feel brilliant..knowing so much.

My dear husband only wishes that I finish what I start. He really can't wait to start wearing something made by me. I am so glad he is a patient man.

I just discovered Library Thing today and it was through Ravelry. I was updating my profile and I saw 'social groups'. I recently got on facebook and added that. Then I saw Library Thing!! I was just about to create my own cataloging system in Access. I love this ... but now my knitting is suffering.

I have been adding my books on LT for a long while, joined Ravelry August 2010 when I went back to knitting after 20 years.

Now I have reached 200 books on LT, even with taking my half a dozen knitting/sewing/craft books out to a branch library in Ravelry will soon hit the ceiling again. Difficult as I'm in England, think will open another LT site, but even then it won't be long before it fills up. Just like the run of IKEA Billy bookcases we bought December 2009.

Off to put away more books in our rearrranged study before casting on to knit first ever pair of socks. Learning curve as using four needles.

Hi, I am libraryhag on ravelry. I love that site but am behind on posting the pictures for my projects. I have the pics, just to lazy to load them I guess. I will get around to it one day. I guess I spend too much time on LibraryThing and Goodreads!

On Ravelry I'm GramBam and have the same picture of my dog. You can also see me and my grandson in my profile. What I like best about Ravelry is how I can look up the old magazines I have, such as Vogue Knitting, and see what other people have chosen to make and what they think about the projects. I have a variety of magazines hanging around the place, of course, as well as lots of Unfinished Objects.

Joined TL just a few days ago, and already LOVE it (though I have to upgrade already...).

I'm UrsulaLiz at Ravelry and am trying not to get too involved there since more and more of my discretionary time is spent here. I can't live online although I seem to be trying. I'll have to go back and look for the LT group there. I used to knit more than I do now. I'm currently working on my first pair of socks (toe up: it's magic!) and am about to start another prayer shawl on size 13 needles. We are always in need of these, so I always try to keep one going, but they are BORING. Fancy patterns don't show up well in work this big, and there is a need for speed. Anybody have suggestions?

LizzieD (#58) invited me (thanks!) and I am happy to find a Ravelry group here on LT. I am currently finishing up an ancient UFO - a cabled and ribbed cardigan for my FiL that has been in the works for about 12 years. It's blocked and ready to seam. I am also knitting a few scarves for Christmas presents and a policeman doll from a KuKu dolls kit. I love Ravelry! My favorite things are seeing what other people have made and being able to keep track of my projects.

I'm Corddrymum on Ravelry. I have all my knitting books on here but haven't added them to Ravelry. I'm slowly putting them on an excel sheet which I've been told I can then download onto Ravelry library. We'll see

Hi Debrob22 you can add your knitting books really easily to Rav if you already have them on LT. Just click on the "More" tab, then click on the import/export link. You will then have a link to export in various formats, choose tab delimited. You can save this file to your computer. When you are on Rav click on library and add a book. Click on the isbn link and then browse and upload the file. Don't worry that the file has your whole library, Rav will only add the knitting books in its database (so may miss some if noone has already added a pattern). Of course you can also use this file to fill in your Excel sheet.

Hi all, I just clicked on join this group and boom! I'm in! My first group on LT. I've been a member of Ravelry for a few years now, and I use it regularly to check out yarn reviews and colorways before I buy yarn online. Also, I belong to the groups on Ravelry that sell used yarn and books, of course! I rarely come into LT these days, being very busy. But still, glad to be here, and thanks.
