Mavis Arnold, a journalist, died July 18th age 80 from complications of Alzheimer's disease. She wrote The Children of the Poor Clares which told the story of a school/orphanage in Ireland. A fire broke out in 1943 and 35 girls died — the sisters having locked them in a dormitory so that the public would not see them in their nightclothes. It was in the 1970s that Arnold began to unearth story against opposition.
