Today, I discovered that Ralph Ellison's long-awaited second novel, Three Days Before the Shooting, will be published next year.
I found a lovely article about it here: The Invisible Manuscript
And, Toni Morrison will be publishing her 9th novel next year as well!
Hopefully, 2008 will be a great year for reading!

I'm waiting with bated breath for the spring release of The Blood Colony by Tananarive Due.
After reading My Soul To Keep, the first book in the series, I became totally hooked..I hope the series continues well beyond the upcoming book!

I'm anxious to read Blood Colony also, I'm not always crazy about Toni Morrisons' books. Some I love others I didn't finish.
I just finished "Acacia The War With The Mein " book I by David Anthony Durham and really enjoyed it. Its his first foray into epic fantasy and I think he did a great job. You keep trying to identify these various groups and find their counterpart on earth. A good read.

Great heads-up info on all the new books from the most established of our african american authors! We do have much to look forward to...Toni Morrison remains one of my favorites authors, so I always look forward to her writings.....although do the posthumous writings published by the Ralph Ellison estate qualify as 'Ralph Ellison' books?....Juneteeth certainly fell short, in my opinion.
What I have noticed recently is that lesser-known african american authors are having an increasingly difficult time getting their books to print. For example, Tina McElroy Ansa has new book coming out early this year titled, Taking After Mudear. She has established her own publishing company with the dream of publishing more african american authors, but the publication dates continue to be pushed further and further back--even for her book. I've been waiting on the new book Seen It All And Done The Rest by Pearl Cleage, but it has encountered the same obstacles. One of my favorite young male authors, Van Whitfield, has has his new book pending for so long the title has changed. (It could be titled The Forty Pound Itch or Heaven's Inn....or maybe there will be two new books from him, who knows?)
I'm looking forward to this year's readings, just wish things would happen faster!

Hello greytone. I am looking for how to add an authors' picture (Tina McElroy Ansa) to my site. Can you please help me. Tina has a book that should be comming out soon. It is late. Her new book will be the sequel to Ugly ways (Talking after Mudear). I hope everyone here will read it.

Whoo-hoo, Toni Morrison!
She is my all-time favorite. I have all of her post-Beloved books in first editions. Except for one. I think she did a limited edition release for her family with one of them, I forget which.

Hi,
I've just finished reading "Song yet Sung" by James McBride and i loved it. Its about slave traders, slave catchers, runaway slaves and all inbetween. The codes and how the slaves and the freed Blacks were
able to survive. I highly recommend it.
