Hi All,
My name is Jennifer Collins. I am an Archivist/Curator with an MLS in Archiving. I am currently the Curator for The Queer Library. This an LGBTQIA+ library that operates like Netflix Dvds. Persons have access to the full library, for a small fee( that is used to cover shipping expenses) a library member can receive books in via the mail and return them with the enclosed return envelopes.
I have been a Stonewall Book Awards Committee member several times and am currently on committee for the 2018 Awards.

Let's talk..

The Queer Library sounds amazing! How is it working out for you? Do you have many subscribers?

I've started a collection of queer children's books. It started out as a search for good material to donate to my kid's elementary school after some troubles she had with other kids. Now my kid is passed that school and I'm still accumulating books. Currently, they sit on my shelf except when I pull them out for a sort of pop-up library at pride events (or at least that was the case before Covid). Would love to hear more about what you're doing.

>2 AuntDaisyG: I would like to know more about your pop-up library at Pride. What was the set up like? Would people read the books at the event? (I don't mind thinking ahead to 2022!)

I just reserved a booth space and brought some small low shelves and some blankets and a small tent and created a reading space. Put the books out and people read them while they were there. It was mostly a space for young kids to crash for a minute, but my hope was also for teens (we had some YA books as well) and parents to just see what's out there. Oh, and I had a giant blow-up rainbow unicorn thing for the pool that I used as a place for the kids to sit on to read as well. One of the drag queens who was performing that day came by and read a book to the kids (we set up the time in advance and kinda put out a call when it was time) and that was really really sweet.
