Is it possible to delete an author?
Such as this one: http://www.librarything.com/author/swifthildegardehoyta
No works attached and is made up of two distinct individuals who should have been cataloged seperately.

Any suggestions?

Short answer: no

Longer answer: just because no works appear on that page, doesn't mean that some user doesn't have a work in their catalog with "Hildegarde Hoyt and Lynd Ward Swift" listed as the author.

In fact, if you look at the editions page for The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge there is one edition listed as

The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge/Swift, Hildegarde Hoyt and Lynd Ward (1 copy separate)

That book, in that user's library, will link to the page http://www.librarything.com/author/swifthildegardehoyta

The work doesn't appear on that author page, because it's combined with other copies and the system has put it on the page for Hildegarde H. Swift.

But even if that user deleted their book, or fixed the author entries, that book record that they originally entered will be kept for all time, as will the author page that they created.

what about a author name that does actually exist and with no works listed?

i.e: https://www.librarything.com/author/novershternavraham&norefer=2

r.orrison (#2):

"The author page they created" isn't quite right. Other than having the name at the top, all that's there is the template, same as you'd get for any sort of keysmash author page:

http://www.librarything.com/author/alkfjasdfdasdfasdfasd

Empty author pages should not be linked to outside of the users' libraries that use that form of the name, though. OwenRochester, where did you come upon the link to that page?
