Hi folks. I just joined your group and I'm having fun exploring what's been published that I've never seen. I don't have all of my heraldry books entered yet but I won't be threatening the leaders here, that's for sure.
My question for the group is whether anyone is aware of fiction, or possibly nonfiction that is not about heraldry, in which heraldry figures importantly.
For example, my wife tells me that the current fantasy series by George R.R. Martin, e.g. A FEAST FOR CROWS, uses heraldry to help keep the many characters straight. I haven't read them but this is one example of the sort of thing I'm thinking of. J. Meade Falkner's THE NEBULY COAT may also be an example.
Can anyone suggest anything further? Thanks.

Shield of Three Lions by Pamela Kaufman
I have this book at home but I haven't read it yet. If you search LT you'll find a list of 546 books listed under Heraldry. I think that could be a good beginning for you. Plus there are probably Specialty Book Stores out there who deal with Heraldry. Doesn't the C.S. Lewis Narnia Series also deal with Heraldry??? How about Game of Thrones?? I haven't seen the HBO Series or read the books but don't they also deal with Heraldry??? In LOTR you have Heraldry too:
Gondor's Coat of Arms- the White Tree
Rohan, the Horse Lords- White Horse
Saruman's Uruk-hai Orcs- the White Hand
Even the Elves have some Heraldry symbols too.
How about Game of Thrones??? I haven't seen the HBO Series or read the books but don't they also deal with Heraldry???

Heinlein's The Moon is a Harsh Mistress gives the new lunar government a coat of arms, and even blazons it in the book. It involves a brass cannon, IIRC...

Thanks. I hadn't heard of the Kaufman book but will investigate. A GAME OF THRONES I was already onto, but I had forgotten about LORD OF THE RINGS. Thanks fo the ideas!

Wow, I read MISTRESS 20 years ago or so and had completely forgotten there was anything like that in it. Thanks!

Hmm, now that I'm thinking on the subject, The Once and Future King blazons arms for most of the main characters too. And there was a character who is described as easily annoyed by people who put color on color or metal on metal and other such faux pas.

I've always meant to read THE ONCE AND FUTURE KING but never have. Now I will use this note as an excuse to finally plunge in. Thanks! And thanks folks for stirring up the embers a little in this too-quiet group.
