Hello everyone and welcome to my thread! My name is Stephen and I don't read nearly as much as I used to. Welcome to my thread, which I will completely neglect for weeks at a time. You should totally add a star and follow, because the lack of activity here means it will take no time at all to keep up with me. I'm very considerate that way.

2 years ago, I spent most of the year reading Great Tales of Horror by H. P. Lovecraft. I normally only read 1 book at a time, and it was the first time I had an ongoing collection of short stories, and I really liked it! So I'm doing it again this year, except this time I'm reading Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales. I don't yet know how I'm going to post about them, most of the stories are under 5 pages and there is something like 200+ of them, so I might do a weekly roundup or something like that. Anyway, I'll be keeping track of my overall progress on this post!

Happy new one Stephen. I think that is your longest time ever between threads.
Miss your more active presence around here but I cannot complain it being a case of pot, kettle and black with me too at the minute.

Welcome Foggi, Nina, Paul, Leah, Jim, and Micky!! :D
Paul: Yeah, things have been slow, for sure. It's also the worst reading year I've ever had. 6 months into the year and only 7 books finished. Yikes!
Amber: But...that's so SOON! Are you sure you didn't mean "months??" :P

I know, right? I mean, it was short and had about 50 pages of "graphic novel" in it, but combined with the 2 Harry Potter books I read I think I practically read a whole book between them. :)

So with the talk of Amber moving back to Ohio I've come to realize that I haven't updated my profile picture since 2013. Which is a long, long time, and I've gotten much rounder and stuff since then. So, uh, here I am. I'm pretty sure I smiled. Enjoy.

11. A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson
Pages: 397
Rating: 5/5
Nonfiction: Hiking/Memoir

Bill Bryson attempts to hike one of the worlds longest trails, the Appalachian Trail, stretching from Georgia to Maine, accounting for well over 2,000 miles, and he recounts his adventure here while providing insight into how it was created, how it is maintained, and the future prospects of the trail as society continues to grow and forests continue to be cleared. Very enjoyable book, it was both humorous and enlightening. I loved it!

BUT, I did start reading a horror book in preparation of Fall/October and I'm really liking it so far! Even if I haven't read it for a couple days.

*snort* well hey, you've been enjoying making the videos and all. One of my brothers has been reading the same book for like six months, so I've given up asking him what he's reading.
76Ape
Y'know what's funny? I used to say I was trying to convert my sister into a reader. Well, here I am not reading at all and she has read something like 50-70+ books this year!
77bell7
Well, if nothing else you were successful haha. I think I read somewhere that reading 12 books a year is pretty much the American average, so really you're not doing bad and may end up above average. It all depends on who you compare yourself to. But I still think that totally counts as being a reader.
79Ape
Mary: Above average is good enough for me! :P

Wishing you a great Thanksgiving Weekend, Stephen, however you decide to spend it.
95Ape
Thanks, Paul! My family actually celebrated a day early, on Wednesday! Today I'm watching (American) football and hopefully playing in a Magic tournament later tonight.
96norabelle414
I hope your tournament went well! Was it online or in person?
97Ape
Nora: In person! I play almost every Saturday at a local gaming store that hosts several Magic: the Gathering tournaments throughout the week. Then I take the packs that I win and I open them on my Youtube channel, in a video series I call "Spoils of War." So far I've made more money than I've spent because I consistently place high enough to win prize packs. 8-)
98norabelle414
That's awesome! Is it usually the same people there every week?
99Ape
Sort of. There is a core group of 6-7 people that you expect to see regularly, so when I go in I expect to see 2 or 3 of those guys, but then you get plenty of random people who show up once or twice in a blue moon, plus you'll get people who will play every week for a month or 2 and then drop off.
100The_Hibernator
>97 Ape: Wow, you really are being enterprising lately. :) Glad you had a good Thanksgiving.

How are your YouTube stats?
122Ape
Steadily growing! Currently at 750+ subscribers and 75,000+ views. It's a paltry amount in the grand scheme of things, but kind of alarming that so many people watched a video and deemed it worthy of subscribing for more. At the current pace the channel should be monetized by my birthday, so that's pretty cool, I suppose!
Most importantly, I feel more confident speaking publicly than I ever have before. In fact, people at my local gaming store (where I play the game in person) probably get tired of the long, rambling speeches I give them about my thoughts on the game.
On the other hand, participating on social media for the channel has probably made me more cynical than ever about humanity as a whole. Don't tell anyone I said that though, I have to keep up appearances and whatnot. ;)
