Could the 'Take inventory' function in the main application be added to the mobile app please.

What is "Take Inventory' and how do I find it on the site?

It is a really useful feature to check you physical books against your catalog. Details and how to access it are here https://wiki.librarything.com/index.php/HelpThing:Your_books/TakeInventory

Hoping that Inventory is still on the App roadmap.

We want to enable volunteers to come take inventory in one fell swoop. LibraryThing tells me that there are more than 1700 lbs of books in the collection (ugh!). If we could:

(a) Scan common barcode formats (we use Code-39) from phone cameras
(b) Have the same Inventory feature in the iOS and Android apps as in the web version

This would be super fast and would minimize wear-and-tear on books (and volunteers) by allowing us to scan them on shelves.

(Pretty-pretty please!?)

Guys. They're in the middle of a major site redesign. Give it more than a week before pestering about this feature.

If the "Take Inventory" was available on mobile apps we should be able to do a barcode scan with the mobile device too.

So...any thoughts on this? Progress?

My collection is out of control. I can't find anything and I think an inventory would help. It only makes sense to have it utilize the app and the camera features of the phone.

Any word on if this feature will be available? The app makes adding new books extremely easy, but it would be really nice to be able to use it to inventory existing books as well.

>9 CIELVIU: Well this is just a recommended improvement. With no comment from the Admin, we don't know if this will ever be considered.

I'll jump in here and echo that I want this feature. Library thing would be sooooo much better if I could scan a book and know instantly if it was in my collection. When I'm out book shopping, I have to type it out by hand or hope that i notice the duplicate tag in the brief window it pops up.

Please add a feature that lets us scan to search our inventory!

>11 revwooster: >9 CIELVIU: Give your full support for that feature in https://www.librarything.com/topic/341601#unread . That's where developers asked recently about it. If you have more than one wish, spread your 100 (read the opening post for clarification)

Edited to post the right link

We DO plan to add an inventory feature to the LTApp. Unfortunately, I don't have a definite timeline for that update.

Is that more or less distant than two weeks?

>14 AndreasJ:

"two weeks" — our favorite time estimate on LT — has had new meaning since 2020 :)

>15 Keeline: Nah, not new. The world just finally adjusted to using the term the same way it had been used in LT for a long time :)

Two weeks, Elon time :-)
