Among the African bishops, both Palmer-Buckle and Tambala believe the leadership of the continent is united behind Francis - and both are put off by efforts in the western world to undermine Francis and openly challenge him...
Tambala said he is puzzled when he hears claims that Francis is creating confusion in the Church. “We don’t find it controversial at all,” he said of the African hierarchy. “It’s very hard for me to hear that people have difficulty understanding. Going to the frontiers, taking care of the marginalized, having the smell of the sheep - this has been our life since time immemorial,” he added...
I have commented in this LT group from time to time along similar lines. The Catholic "culture wars" are not global, they are primarily in the USA but also Europe. Francis is not "creating confusion". Justice and peace, and the preferential option for the poor, are a part of daily life for the African Church. The article goes on to praise inculturation, and to emphasise the continuity in the ministry of the last three popes in this regard. For those who've spent their entire life experiencing European or north American Catholicism, this may all seem strange, but those of us Catholics who live in the Global South may have a different viewpoint based on our experience.
