I've scanned the dormant files for reference to films about or containing or even mentioning birds, and don't see any, so it might be advantageous to have one separate from the fiction books thread.

Yesterday, I made mention of The Big Year (2011) which I was pleased to see had other fans also.
Enjoyable elements:
* Corbin Bernsen cameo (snowcocks)
* Brian Dennehy under the tree near the Great Gray Owl
* Anjelica Huston in braids

The Notebook (2004)
Enjoyable elements:
* 'if you're a bird then I'm a bird'
* gorgeous cinematography of birds flying at dawn and/or dusk
* snow geese (faked by CGI but adorable)
* Nick Cassavetes did a great job filming his mom Gena Rowlands

Another dvd that popped into my head was O (2001) directed by Tim Blake Nelson. What does the story of Othello have to do with birds, you ask?!

Enjoyable elements:
* school mascot is a live hawk, which factors into the basketball storyline frequently
* doves create a perfect contrast in metaphor for the 'innocents'
* althought the classic Othello plot by Shakespeare has been updated and rewritten to reflect drug culture, jealousy and violence in a contemporary high school setting, it was remarkably well done
* dvd Director Commentary is outstanding and made me a huge fan of Tim Blake Nelson and his mental acuity
* poor Coach Duke (Martin Sheen) gets blamed for the 'unrest'
* Odin/Othello, Hugo/Iago, Desi/Desdemona, Brable/Brabantio, Emily/Emilia, Michael/Cassio, Roger/Roderigo, Brandy/Bianca, etc.
* fun fact, Rain Phoenix plays the role of Emily
* filmed in Charleston, South Carolina

I have no idea what type of hawk it is, but if anyone can identify it from the trailer it would be nice to know...

Josh Hartnett also starred in Black Hawk Down (2001) which was released the same year as O, although O was filmed 3yrs prior. TBN was editing the movie at night while filming O Brother, Where Art Thou? during the day, which he said was insane but fulfilling.
(per IMDb trivia page)

Enjoyable elements:
* story based on true to life historical military figures and events
* featured real Black Hawk helicopters, as only Ridley Scott can do
* actors put through boot camp prior to filming

Kes, the 1969 Ken Loach film based on Barry Hines's A kestrel for a knave. I remember the film at the time as being powerful stuff. I've not read the book.

>6 frahealee: - Honourable Mention:

How could you forget The Road Runner?!

I loved Foghorn Leghorn and The Road Runner when I was a youngster--and not so young, for that matter; I seem to remember them repeated on British TV for years--decades, perhaps.

>7 John5918: And related films; The Girl (2012), etc.

I was going to list the other 2012 film with Tony Hopkins and Helen Mirren but it was about the making of Psycho, not The Birds.

I plan to read the original story before the year's out, since I haven't yet, and Daphne du Maurier is currently on my gothic/weird radar. Research tells me it's about a boy in the woods who predicts the 'fallout' but is hepless to prevent devastating circumstances.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull. The 1973 film was based on Richard Bach's book of the same name (1968). I've not seen the film, which seems not to have been well received at the time. However, somehow I have read the book, probably at school given the number of times Christianity and schools are mentioned in the members' reviews.

No schools open today in Ontario, so watching How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019) with my daughter revealed an unknown short film in the bonus features called Bird Karma.

Incidentally, animators of the Dragon franchise at DreamWorks used several birds for inspiration; sparrow, hummingbird, parrot, owl, etc.

The Raven Boys inspired a tv movie The Raven Cycle (2019/2020?) directed by Catherine Hardwicke.

The Maltese Falcon (1941 film), which is based on a book of the same name by Dashiell Hammett, although the falcon in question is only a statuette.
