I'm a little late posting...I haven't posted in a loooong while actually. But as I have set a TBR challenge for myself this year, this seems like a pretty good way of tracking my progress :) I'm targeting 20 must-read books this year though (so four more slots to fill), some of them has been on my pile for years!!! as i write these, i just finished my 3rd book off the list for this year, which makes me feel quite happy ^_^

Here's my list. I'm not too fussy which ones are main ones and which are alternates.

Emperor of the Eight Islands - Lian Hearn (reads like a folk lore. simple and straightforward, but you get the sense of something more bubbling underneath 4.5/5)
The Housekeeper and the Professor - Yoko Ogawa (a novel about maths i didnt know i needed! an easier read than i expected. loved it! 5/5)
Peter Pan - J.M. Barrie (darker and more magical than the versions i grew up with 4.5/5)
Circe - Madeline Miller (circe's story, as unreal as it is, is a raw and epic experience of how it is to be a woman. 5/5)
Emma - Jane Austen

Jamaica Inn - Daphne Du Maurier
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine - Gail Honeyman
Kindred - Octavia E. Butler
The Essex Serpent - Sarah Perry
Early Riser - Jasper Fforde
Crime and Punishment - Fyodor Dostoevsky
Tree - F. Sionil Jose
Blindness - José Saramago
Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain - Oliver Sacks
Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage - Haruki Murakami
The Name of the Wind - Patrick Rothfuss
Roadside Picnic - Arkady Strugatsky
Flowers for Algernon - Daniel Keyes
Quicksilver - Neal Stephenson
The Dice Man - Luke Rhinehart

That's an impressive stack of titles! Hope you'll enjoy reading them! I'll be interested to know what you think about them.
Happy reading!

Lots of good stuff! I bought The Name of the Wind when it was brand new in paperback, but still haven't read it. I thought I'd wait for the full trilogy to be published. And I've waited. And waited. And waited ...

thanks! ^_^ i did the same thing! i just got a copy of the 2nd book, and the 3rd book is due out later this year, so i think its time i finally actually start the trilogy :D very intimidating set of books, judging from their size!

>5 riida:, got me excited for a second there, but I can't find any confirmation the third book has a firm release date yet.

Ooh! So many good titles listed. I also have The Essex Serpent on my list as well. Hopefully we both get to it this year. I just finished a reread of Flowers for Algernon for my book club and still loved it. Wish I could go back and read it again for the first time.

Good luck with your challenge!

> 7 LittleTaiko: thanks ^_^ i have been greedy in the buying of good titles, but very lazy in the reading :D these books have been on my shelves for ages now! I'm really hoping to get to Flowers for Algernon this year!

Good luck with your challenge too!

it saddens me to write that i feel i wont be able to reach my goals for this challenge...actually, i was hoping to get to read at least 12 out of my 20 listed here, but i dont think i'll even manage that.

i had a relatively great start to my reading year...then the pandemic happened. i had to move to a new country in a rush for a new job and i had to leave most of my stuff in london, including all but a handful of my books. i thought i'd be able to get my things by now, but the ever changing quarantine rules between countries is making it really difficult. so now i am without my books, in a country where english is not the main publishing language...

i have emma on audiobook, plus 3 other books not on this list, left to read...hopefully that will last me long enough for things to change for the better (for me and for everybody else too).

keep reading and stay safe.

Glad you stopped by to update us, that's always better than when someone mysteriously disappears.

A foreign country without anything to read .... nightmare! But life could be worse. :) May you be safe as well.

Being somewhere without something to read is also one of my nightmares. Good luck with your new job. Hopefully things will settle down soon.
