Book vs work mismatch

I'm sure I must not be the first to ask this, and I'm sure there is a way of dealing with it. I just need some guidance in getting started.

I entered two books and are told that they are duplicates ("There is another version of this book in Your books")

Actually they are distinct and they have distinct ISBNs, and I entered and checked both ISBNs.

The links on my book pages are:

https://www.librarything.com/work/2623415/book/182215214 (eighth collection)

and:

https://www.librarything.com/work/2623415/book/182214785 (ninth collection)

Both of these however point to a work details page which is correct for the second but not the first, i. e.

https://www.librarything.com/work/2623415/workdetails/182215214 (ninth collection)

and

https://www.librarything.com/work/2623415/workdetails/182214785 (ninth collection)

I presume this is why I am getting the duplicate version message.

The work-only page for these is of course:

https://www.librarything.com/work/2623415

which is the same for both (eighth collection)

When I search the site for the ninth collection, the work page also shows the eighth collection. So it seems something is obviously messed up here.
There is probably a way to fix this but I don't know how to go about it.

Could someone help with this ?

It is not common, I know, but if it does arise it would be helpful to know the recommended approach.

Thanks !

This is fairly common. It is dealt with by separating (and combining) from the editions page.

You will now find your copy of the eighth collection at https://www.librarything.com/work/2623409.

One reason this happened is that titles are only compared for a certain number of characters OR until there is a colon. Yours was not the only wrong edition there. There are still two editions with the ISBN of the eighth collection although the title says ninth. This means it is easy for false autocombining to happen. In cases like this we assume that the title is more likely to be right.

You can learn to fix this sort of thing yourself (It's not hard.) or come ask for help at https://www.librarything.com/groups/combiners
