Oooh - I only just went and had a look at the bookmooch site. I'd always assumed it was just in the US and UK but nope, there are 60 NZers there.

Anyone here used it? Is it as cool as it sounds?

Wow, I have to admit I'd not looked at BookMooch for NZ books. I've not swapped before, but I know BM is one of the preferred swap sites LT supports (I think they were the first) :)

Well, I joined last night, added 10 books, and found someone with city of fallen angels in Hamilton. And he's sending it to me!! It's really cool. Now I just need to find some books that I want to get rid of that someone else wants... There are 1000 New Zealand books on there.

Ooh, I'll have to have a look. I've used Swap club a little, and it's worked pretty well, though it feels lacking compared to libraythings user friendliness. A real sense of "we want to make money from you".

I go on BookMooch. ^^; Although I'm leaving on Sunday for a whole month so I'm listed as on vacation, but when I come back you may see me around! I have only sent books out, not received any yet, but it's lots of fun.

I just joined bookmooch! I can't wait to see what it's like. I have had 5 books mooched from me and I have mooched one myself so I'll see how it all works.

I belonged to bookswap and it was alright but not big enough? Like with Bookmooch there are so many users that within a few hours I had books mooched from me so I had points to mooch myself. On bookswap it was stagnant for quite a while.

Then I had a lady request a book from me and never signed in to say she had recieved it, even though she had emailed me to say she had got it, so my points were 'pending'. I emailed her and the owners of the site and they never responded. The lady finally logged in and recorded it as being recieved weeks afterwards. I understood why she hadn't, things can slip your mind etc, but given how few books were actually being swapped and that points are held hostage until the book has been notified as recieved the whole system and lack of interest by the owners irritated me so I pulled all the books off the inventory.

cmt - how did you access the New Zealand books on Bookmooch. I tried entering NZ in the browse section but it did not work.

I'm not cmt but hopefully this will help you anyway as I am also a member at BM :)

Member section -> browse -> location -> books by country -> New Zealand

I joined Book Mooch, but then realised I couldn't part with ANY of my books, even if I didn't like em! I'm such a collecterholic!

>9 asgard: Not even ONE? ;P If someone mooches that one book from you internationally, you will have three points in which to spend on books for yourself! (costs 2 for international and 1 for just in NZ).

I do hope you stay around! There are plenty of other collectorholic people on BookMooch, too (: (although I'll be honest - BM feeds their addiction!)

#9 asgard, you must have better taste in books than me... I was amazed at how much trash (well not trash, but nearly) I had. And funny things have been mooched - like very old Agatha Christies, Marian Keyes books, Francis Mayes, and books that have lots of copies on BookMooch.

But yep, I've got better at sending off really good books. They quite often go to people from LibraryThing, so I'm happy that they're going to loving homes. I've sent 50 away now but have had even more back. The average quality of my library's going up!
