They called Arizona for Biden with startling alacrity. (Prematurely?) But they refused to call Florida for Trump for hours after even the New York Times meter had Trump at 95% probability of victory.

The person heading their election night coverage is a Democrat who has donated thousands of dollars to Democrats.

(Yes, I'm aware of Tucker Carlson. He's the exception.)

LOL.

What is MSNBC when 3/4's of their hosts are either former hedge fund operators and/or Wall St. traders or Bush era apparatchiks (Nicole Wallace) and former republican congressmen (Joe Scarborough leading the way)? I guess there's also a former high powered attorney or three and maybe one actual journalist to be found in the entire building. I keep hearing they're left.

#6--Carny makes a joke---he's a very funny guy.

One of the democrats I didn't mind to see lose this time around was NY-11 Max Rose the MSNBC favorite--one of the I think two house democrats who didn't impeach our shitbird president. He was determinedly throughout his two years trying to prove how right wing a democrat could be and crying tears every time his party wasn't appeasing the other side--it would make it so much harder for him to win again and so the republicans in his district just switched him out for the real thing anyway. They were always going to do it unless he did a Jeff Van Drew. Fuck off Rose.

Yes, Fox is now "left."

As in left out with no clear audience now that they have upped the truth factor in their reporting. Pretty swift response to Shep Smith's competition as the new nightly newscaster over on wingnut-free CNBC at 7PM.

Will Donald Trump be interested in phoning in in '21, or will he devote himself to the Blaze and OAN where the "Q"s and other batshit crazy hangers-on hang out? Will Faux News hosts even pick up the phone if he does?

Both Trump and his former favorite TV network that once was the best Republican noise machine's futures look kind of SAD.

That should be Trumpty-Dumbpties' idea of Make Heaven Great Again, and the end of the Evil Murdoch Empire, which has had a pivot-away-from-Trump moment because advertisers have fled due to Roger's proclivity for hiring male criminal deviants.

Since Trump is such a successful businessman conman, I expect he'll develop a scheme that will siphon oodles of cash from the deep pockets and delusions of his most devoted acolytes.*

Business will always be more important to Rupert Murdoch than Trump (Independent)

One of the main characteristics that Rupert Murdoch and Donald Trump share is a distaste for losers. As the Australian media mogul’s US channels and newspapers turned against Trump this week, culminating in not so subtle appeals for him to concede on Friday, it became clear that Murdoch believes the US president now falls squarely in that category...

We should not give too much credit to Murdoch’s outlets for some sudden shift towards responsible journalism... for Murdoch and his media empire, the election result matters a lot less than what it means for his businesses. After years backing a president who has done more than any other to undermine facts, he was not able to change them on the ground of this election. Murdoch can see that as clearly as anyone, and is acting accordingly...

43Limelite
Bearbeitet: Nov. 9, 2020, 1:19 am

The so-called shift in Fox Media bias is probably due to Murdoch's bottom line concerns, The advertising revenues he experienced in the heyday of his TV "news" channel has suffered serious inroads as advertisers fled when the vitriol, lying, and shrill bigotry expressed by his hosts combined with the male stars' sexual deviancy way past harassment.

Murdoch was willing to live with that, but not charges of rape, after his income declined when money was pulled out in the hundreds of millions (or more) when sexual crimes being the norm at Fox News was made public. Cancel culture does the trick.

He can no longer afford Trump.

If I believed Murdoch were an actual thinking man, I'd venture that he warned Trump off. The basis being Murdoch doesn't want to risk being pushed by Trump and his supporters into becoming the Voice of Sedition. That is where Trump is headed with his vengefullness and his followers will go all the way with him by answering his dog-whistles with armed insurrection/domestic terrorism on a big scale. That would mean the end of his media Empire in the land that gives him his biggest wealthiest audience.

By that logic, Barry Goldwater must have cheated like hell. Here's Goldwater's election: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1964_United_States_presidential_election . Besides Arizona, he took South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. South Carolina last voted Republican in 1876, 88 years before Goldwater; Alabama and Mississippi in 1872, 92 years before Goldwater, and Georgia had never voted for a Republican in the history of the United States of America.

1856 was the first Republican candidate for President, so we can either believe that Georgia broke with 108 years of tradition (104, if we don't count 1864?) or Goldwater is a cheating thief. And if we can believe that Georgia broke with 108 years of tradition for Goldwater, we can believe that Arizona, which voted for Bill Clinton in 1996, voted for Biden in 2020.

There aren't both sides of the news story when you're a journalist. There's the facts that are reported, which is how you get -- as close as is humanly possible -- to the truth.

When you're a listener and a reader, that's when two-siderism raises it's deceitful head. The audience is the decider in today's "I know better" conspiracy circles. But it's merely banal self-delusion.

Revisions for accuracy and corrections of inaccuracy by journalists and journalistic media don't change the facts or truth, contrary to what the "I just want to own them" class thinks. Similarly, withdrawal of a story when lied to by witnesses, or continually unfolding factual revelations, just like in a lawsuit, doesn't make the story or the suit specious.

What the right wing and O'Keefe, in particular, try to do by creating fake news is an attempt to feed their trolls and to discredit facts because they can't handle the truth. The truth exposes them as fakes. The truth will out. That's why he and they are consistently exposed for what they are.

When you live in a house of lying cards, expect it to come down around you. Evidence: Trump lost the election big time, fairly and legitimately and irrevocably. His cray-cray lawsuits, tweets, and rants notwithstanding.

>92 Earthling1: Not the most bullshit claim I've heard, but still. We can talk Dan Rather and the infamous letter about W's time in the Texas Air National Reserves, and we could talk about how in 2017, a woman told the Washington Post about how Roy Moore attacked her, and instead of reporting it, they discovered she worked for Project Veritas (sic) and was lying to them.

telling people which side is supposedly correct rather than letting the public decide.

Postmodernism is bad when it means that liberals are talking about how we should listen to multiple sides, but it's good when liberals are pointing out that certain things that are facts. Since when has the job of the media been tell people that "Joe says that blue and red are different colors, but Jim says they're two words for the same color"? The media shouldn't hesitate to call a lie a lie.

They even declare information to be fact as if they had personally confirmed it, when they could not possibly have done so.

That's almost an "all Cretans are liars" level statement. Has she personally confirmed this claim? Can she prove they haven't bugged the White House? This stinks of someone using epistemology to attack their enemies, instead of having sane coherent rules on what should be reported as fact.

It's weird how she writes Fox News out of existence, who defended themselves against libel claims by saying that Tucker Carlson can't be taken seriously. Again, this strikes me as partisan, not academic or honest.

A major part of their role is to inform the public. The media might well report the lies, but it also reports the facts which demonstrate the lie to be a lie.

>96 Earthling1: Bullshit victorian do-gooder elitist racist paternalism.

One of my increasing frustrations with Republicans, which is also a frustration of many liberals, is that it doesn't seem like there's any philosophical foundations, that any argument that "wins" is good. There's a lot of meat in >92 Earthling1: about what the role of the media should be, and academics have spent their lives discussing it. Instead, you post >92 Earthling1: and yet on another thread make a flat assertion about Dan Coats on something you can't have personally confirmed, without citing who told you or what their biases are. Apparently the media calling a lie lie is "bullshit victorian do-gooder elitist racist paternalism", but that doesn't mean anything for what you do or believe. It just seems you don't like what the media is saying today, more than you having a philosophical or epistemological reason for disagreeing with "The media shouldn't hesitate to call a lie a lie."

#98--he's just stringing words together that ultimately don't mean a thing apart from it being a way of showing his own disapproval.

The 24-7 and other major media sources have been taking sides forever. This is nothing new or unexpected. Donald Trump turned it into a thing. He is unable to look at or respond to any kind of critique other than to add it to his personal grievance and paranoia which he shares with other bozos who turn it into their own personal grievance and paranoia. So and so 'said mean things about me' is what it comes down to. Since when has there every been a presidential administration that hasn't been severely criticized by the other side's and even occasionally their own side's media? It strikes me that Donald T. was a spoiled crybaby as a child and has carried that forever throughout his life.

Just the title of this thread speaks though to how successfully DJT has passed his crybaby-ness to others.

I keep finding dozens of cases (a veritable "mountain", indeed) where the judges and/or electoral authorities of both political stripes have remained unconvinced by the "mountain" of "evidence" presented, but I haven't yet found the "mountain" of cases where they have been convinced. Trumpty-Dumbpties Worship Their Putin Puppy President but hate their "Leftist" TV Station

'Violence is coming from the right': Fox News attacks conservatives over armed COVID protests.
Fox News host Sandra Smith reported. "Oregon police have had violent confrontations with left-wing groups. Now the violence is coming from the right."

Correspondent Jonathan Hunt reported that police are expecting an extended "battle with right-wing groups, including Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer.

"The protest, with many taking part unmasked, was organized by the Washington-based right-wing group Patriot Prayer," he added. "So if law enforcement officials in Oregon thought they might get a break from protests post-election, it seems they were badly mistaken, only the political motivations of the protesters have actually changed."
Aside from the false equivalency that the BLM and Anti-fa protestors are just the same as the armed gangs of Af-Am murdering, government-threatening, and cop-killing advocates that belong to RWNJ gun-sucking domestic terrorists, there's really no difference. Uh-huh.

Tucker Carlson's targeting of Taylor Lorenz follows pattern of berating female journalists (Guardian)

Tucker Carlson took a different tack. The rightwing media host instead marked the celebration of women by giddily harassing a female journalist, devoting his time to attacking the New York Times reporter Taylor Lorenz. Across two nights Carlson, who has a history of berating female journalists, dedicated his blend of faux outrage and conjured-up accusations of media bias to Lorenz, who in her role as a tech reporter has been subjected to threats over the past year. But those hoping for a change of tune from Carlson are likely to be disappointed. Carlson’s targeting of Lorenz followed a long pattern of his behavior towards female journalists...

Watch: John Oliver Dedicates Entire Segment to Exposing Tucker Carlson as a ‘White Supremacist’

“When you put all of this together, the pattern is clear,” explained Oliver. “He is scared of a country that ‘looks nothing like the one he grew up in’ because diversity ‘isn’t our strength,’ immigrants make our country ‘poorer, dirtier, and more divided,’ and any attempt to change that culture is an attack on Western civilization. All of which is really just a long way of saying that when Tucker asks, ‘What is white supremacy?’ the answer is: basically that. It’s a belief that in a country where white people are dominant, that’s all down to their natural and innate abilities, and any effort to change that is an affront to the natural order of things.”

Murdoch is apparently very pleased to have a white supremacist on his payroll. He keeps adding to TC's duties on the network. The GOP also approves.
