I recently read The Pull of the Stars by Emma Donoghue and absolutely loved it. So I'm looking for more books like this. Historical fiction with a focus on medicine and/or plagues & pandemics.

Thank you!

Are you open to science fiction? Doomsday Book by Connie Willis has two linked plotlines, one set during the Black Plague and one set during a rather dated future (the book was published in 1992) with a flu pandemic.

>3 lorax: That was the title that jumped into my mind too. A very good book, but long.

You might enjoy The weight of ink by Rachel Kadish set in London. This story has two timelines. In the 17th century the main character, Ester, acts as a scribe for a rabbi. After his death she and his housekeeper scrabble for a place to live, and then the plague hits.

In the 2nd timeline, the 20th century, an historian about to retire finds out about a cache of manuscripts discovered in a 17th century house being renovated, and races against a rival to determine the authenticity of the documents.

You would like Fever by Mary Beth Keane. It is about Typhoid Mary. (She also wrote Ask Again, Yes which is wonderful but a different genre).
You might also like The Woman in the Photo by Mary Hogan. It is about the Johnstown Flood.

I haven't read this - Cutting For Stone by Verghese but hear good things from people who have. It was on Obama's reading list when first published, and he does pick interesting reads.
