As Josh Hawley loses a book deal over the Capitol riots, his GOP mentor says backing him was ‘the worst mistake I ever made’

John C. Danforth, a former Republican senator from
Missouri, had once viewed Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) as
a “once-in-a-generation” talent — a young, upstart
politician with a promising future in Washington.

Capitol Vandals' Deplorable Display of Their Coprophilia

Trump supporters defecated in the Capitol and 'tracked' feces around lawmakers' offices. Spreading scatological graffiti doesn't just send an insulting message, it may well also spread Covid-19.

Capitol attackers have long threatened violence in rural American west (Guardian)

When the full story of the 6 January storming of the US Capitol building is told, historians will have to make sense of what might seem an odd footnote. The two most prominent rightwing militia groups that participated in the mob onslaught on Congress – the Three Percenters, based in Idaho, and the Oath Keepers, based in Nevada – cut their teeth in obscure corners of the American west, where for close to a decade they have threatened violence against federal employees and institutions that steward the nation’s public lands. “The mob violence that swarmed the halls of the Capitol building and other government offices flows from a series of smaller armed insurrections by domestic terrorists across the west”...

To quote Moore:
https://facebook.com/mmflint/posts/10157486921931857
The terrorist attack is NOT over. Thousands from Wednesday’s terrorist mob assault on the Capitol have not been arrested and have NOT LEFT the DC area. They are planning more attacks. This poster I’ve included here is being displayed all over. It has even been circulated among the members of Congress. Some leaders are afraid to say straight up what I’m telling you. They don’t want a panic. They don’t want to help publicize it (understandably). But the public needs to be told - and now. Law enforcement knows that there’s more violence ahead. Trump and his inner circle, his crime family, have called for this uprising and they are pleased with what they’ve seen and they know what’s going on. Unless these white terrorists are arrested NOW - en masse - there will be people killed between now and Inauguration Day. I can’t stress this enough. Way too many police are sympathetic to their white terrorist brethren. They will stand down again and allow the violence to continue. PLEASE NOTE: This poster I’m sharing with you is calling for an ARMED March on January 17th. And they are calling for it to take place not just in DC but in EVERY state Capitol in all 50 states. I keep hoping in the back of my mind this poster isn’t real. But it was sent to me by a Member of Congress. We HAVE to treat it seriously and demand action. The terrorists saw on Wednesday that they could get away with it. They are empowered and excited. They believe this is their moment. We are all in danger. I ask that you listen to me — me, the person who warned you Trump would win in 2016, who warned you there would be no weapons of mass destruction found in Iraq and that the premise for the invasion was a lie. I’m the guy who warned you that Columbine would be only the first of many, many mass school shootings. And on and on. I only recite this litany of my failures to convince the public we are in serious danger in the hopes you will listen to me today. Impeachment is scheduled to happen by Thursday? Too late. Too late. Remove the head of this terrorist action TODAY. He’s at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. His co-conspirators are in the Republican Caucus of the House & Senate. The mob is everywhere. They often wear red hats and have no Covid masks on their face. Some carry weapons, some make bombs, and a few kill cops while chanting “Blue lives matter!” All of them know they are protected by their white skin and believe nothing will happen to them. All of them want to stop our votes from being counted — and stop the new President from taking office. Their only problem: there’s more of us than there are of them. And that only infuriates them more. A show of strong legal force and the removal of their Leader is the only thing that will stop what we are about to experience. For the sake of peace — DEMAND ACTION! Stop this madness.

As a reason to close overseas military bases--to drop down our presence in war zones we have no real good reason to be in. Really militia groups like the 3%'ers can fuck off as far as I'm concerned. Better to break up their little organizations and if necessary with our own military. So bring our military forces back from overseas and if these yahoos still want to engage in their intimidation tactics from court houses to capital buildings every time they decide to dispute an election or a law that doesn't go their way then they can fight with the Army or the Marines and if they choose to take it back into their dales and hollers that's fine too. However well trained some of them may be they don't have the logistics necessary to win. Small groups of them might survive for a long while--may even have fairly broad community support---but even with all that you bear enough weight down on them they'll be suppressed---they won't be showing up much during the day time anyway.

https://www.gq.com/story/man-predicted-capitol-coup-interview
The Man Who Saw Yesterday’s Coup Attempt Coming Is Only Surprised It Wasn’t Much Worse
“It was not the army I expected it to be.”

Arieh Kovler knew. “On January 6, armed Trumpist militias will be rallying in DC, at Trump's orders,” he wrote on Twitter on December 21st. “It's highly likely that they'll try to storm the Capitol after it certifies Joe Biden's win. I don't think this has sunk in yet.” It sank in for the rest of us yesterday, when Trumpist militias stormed the capitol. If Arieh Kovler knew, why didn’t everyone else?

We all could have, says Kovler, a political consultant with a background in government relations in the U.K. who studies extremist Trump message boards. In his telling, it wasn’t all that difficult to see the writing on the wall. (In fact, many people went beyond Kovler, and went as far as to email DC police warning them of an incoming siege.) A single Trump tweet had the power to provoke his base into organizing yesterday’s events. "Big protest in D.C. on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!" Trump wrote. “Once Trump said be there,” Kovler said on a phone call Thursday morning, “they interpreted that as a call to action, as their marching orders.” As one Trump supporter on Reddit interpreted it: “DADDY SAYS BE IN DC ON JAN. 6TH.”

Scarier still is how much worse Wednesday could have gone. Kovler wondered if one way the protesters might swing the election in Trump’s favor was by “forcing Congress to certify him as the winner at gunpoint,” he wrote in the original Twitter thread from December. This wasn’t baseless theorizing, either—it, too, came from online posting visible to anyone who bothered to look. “They imagined that this was the day there were going to be mass executions of Congressmen,” Kovler said. So while DC police assert there was “no intelligence that suggests that there would be a breach of the US Capitol,” Kovler is just surprised it wasn’t much worse.
...
Come Election Day, he doesn't win. So all these people go, "Wait, it can't be. How could Trump possibly lose an election that everyone I know knew he was going to win?" I could just see a certain reality catching up with them, and it would have to be on that day of the certification. And once they saw Trump saying to his supporters, come to DC on that day, I could see it going the wrong way.

You could see the discussion become less abstract. By last week, these people were sharing maps of D.C. They were talking about having enough of them that they would be able to erect basically their own cadre around the entire area of Congress. They had a map of the tunnels in the basement of the Capitol, and they were talking about how they're going to be able to stop Congress from leaving. They imagined that this was the day there were going to be mass executions of Congressmen.

But a lot of them also just imagined they were going to be there for this historic time when Trump pulled away the curtain and revealed that all of Congress were traitors and then took his just and equal revenge.

33John5918

>32 davidgn: "Wait, it can't be. How could Trump possibly lose an election that everyone I know knew he was going to win?"

That's a phrase I've heard repeated in news interviews with Trump supporters. It shows a very narrow understanding of demographics. Of course it's not unlikely that most of the people we know will be of a similar political persuasion. Almost all of the US citizens whom I know voted Democrat, but then most of the US citizens I know are internationalists, humanitarian workers, peacebuilders, social justice advocates, human rights activists, progressive Catholics, etc, so it's hardly surprising. Likewise if you live in a small mid-western town where most of the people are white working class, it's hardly surprising that most of them voted for Trump. But that so many people are so blind that they can't see that just because most of their friends and neighbours voted the same way doesn't mean that the whole country would have voted the same way is very worrying.

Couple of Buzzfeed pieces I'm working through.
These Black Capitol Police Officers Describe Fighting Off "Racist Ass Terrorists"
Two Black officers told BuzzFeed News that their chief and other upper management left them totally unprepared and were nowhere to be found on the day.
https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/emmanuelfelton/black-capitol-police-racism-...

While some of the images from that day appeared to show officers standing by to let the mob into the Capitol building, the veteran officer said that they had fought them off for two hours before the attackers eventually gained access. The officer said that many of the widely spread images of smiling marauders, wandering the halls dressed in absurd costumes, had the effect of downplaying how well prepared some of the rioters were to overtake the building, and even to capture and kill Congress members.

“That was a heavily trained group of militia terrorists that attacked us,” said the officer, who has been with the department for more than a decade. “They had radios, we found them, they had two-way communicators and earpieces. They had bear spray. They had flash bangs ... They were prepared. They strategically put two IEDs, pipe bombs in two different locations. These guys were military trained. A lot of them were former military,” the veteran said, referring to two suspected pipe bombs that were found outside the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee and the Republican National Committee.

The officer even described coming face to face with police officers from across the country in the mob. He said some of them flashed their badges, telling him to let them through, and trying to explain that this was all part of a movement that was supposed to help.

Moore's latest.
https://www.facebook.com/mmflint/posts/10157489256976857
THE 7 CRITICAL TRUTHS:
1. This attack on the Capitol was an Inside Job in which some Republican members of Congress and their staffs assisted the mob in getting into and through the Capitol building.
2. Various elements of law enforcement also assisted in the attack, as did rogue cops and current and ex-military from around the country. Current members of the NYPD and the Seattle police force have been identified in footage as part of the mob. Reports say they’ve also identified active duty troops partipating in the attack - plus a police chief and a sheriff - as members of the mob. The guy inside the House chamber carrying the large number of police-grade handcuff zip-ties is a retired Lt. Colonel.
3. Trump was the ringleader and the inciter - and when cries of help were made to him to send in the National Guard to protect the Capitol and our elected representatives, Trump refused.
4. This attack was a dry run for more violent attacks the terrorists are planning to launch before the Inauguration.
5. Why did members of Congress tell their staffs to stay home on Wednesday “for their own safety?” Everyone knew there would be trouble. Yet, stunningly, 1,900 Capitol Police were told to stay home on Wednesday. Only 400 reported to work. It was designed for them to be overrun.
6. Of the very few terrorists who have now been arrested, not one of them has been charged with domestic terrorism. “Trespassing” is the most common charge.
7. White supremacists were everywhere in the mob. Some wore T-shirts proclaiming, “6 Million Was Not Enough.” Our military and police departments across the country have been infiltrated by white supremacists and hard-core racists. Defunding them will defang them. Everyone knows had that mob been Black, they’d all be dead. We need to start over with a whole new concept of criminal justice, and new anti-racist peacekeeping officers.

House To Make Official Call: "Pence, Remove Trump from Power!"

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said that they had been reaching out to Vice President Mike Pence to encourage him to invoke the 25th Amendment.
Section 4 of Amendment 2 is the piece. . .that most are looking to as a guide. It allows "the vice president and a majority of the president's cabinet or a group designated by Congress to declare in writing to the Senate president pro tempore and House speaker that the sitting president is unable to perform the duties of the office.

Presumably, that means that since Cabinet officials have resigned, leaving only "acting" members, those "acting" officials weren't "designated by Congress," so they wouldn't be allowed to vote.
Trump doesn't believe Pence has the guts to do it. I don't think it's a question of guts. I think it's a matter of his self-interest.

Invoking the 25th Amendment will not prevent Trump from running for president again should he be alive in 2024. Only impeachment and conviction by the Senate will do that. Why should Pence make himself unpopular (more than he already did Jan. 6th) with the base Trump supporters if he doesn't have to? Invoking the 25th gets him nothing more than leaving the Insurrectionist-in-Chief in office does now. So, why cooperate with the Dems?

Any political observer has noticed by now that Trump probably is not in control of the government, including most of the Cabinet. Pence could have easily calculated that these last two weeks of Trump's administration are giving him something no other candidate for the Republican nomination will have in 2024 -- presidential experience, and in a crisis at that.

My read is that he will counter the Pelosi/Schumer overture with the recommendation that they get moving on impeachment because it costs him nothing may. Besides, the Senate trial may be postponed until after the Democratic Senators from GA are sworn in and Biden's honeymoon is over (first 100 days). Even then, no doubt Republican senators will sue in the hope that SCOTUS would reject such an unprecedented eventuality because it's not a specifically given power in the Constitution. NOTE: Nor is it a specifically forbidden one.

Trump's shameful exit, regardless of how it unfolds, seems destined to be a Never-Ending Story.

In this morning's NY Times , we find the following:

Mitchell Hoyt, a Trump voter in Wisconsin, objected when a reporter referred to the “storming” of the Capitol.

“The people didn’t show up with guns trying to overthrow the government, but the media likes to spin it that way,” he said. Though he said he believed the break-in and vandalism at the Capitol were “not a good representation of conservatism in this country,” he added: “I don’t think those people should be demonized. They’re angry and when people don’t think they have a voice that can be heard, stuff like this happens.”

Tolstoy's Delight: An Unhappy Family

Because the latter make great novels, like Anna Karenina, which opens, "Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way."

The Family Gosar is one of the latter.

Three of Rep. Paul Gosar's (R-AZ) siblings have reached out to Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) asking him to help get their brother expelled from Congress after the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol they blame him for helping to instigate.
It is the third time in three years members of the Arizona Republican's family have taken dramatic steps hoping to derail his political career.

Once again, it comes in response to what they view as outrageous conduct that hurts the nation.

"We know him to be an extremist and we took that very seriously," said Seattle resident Jennifer Gosar, one of Paul Gosar's nine siblings. "I believe that my brother has been a constant perpetrator of misinformation. . . I've been incredulous at the lack of accountability thus far. I would think Wednesday would be certainly a line."

"He's set a dangerous sort of precedent along the 10 years he's been in office," said Tim Gosar of Fort Collins, Colo. "When you talk about what happened the other day, you're talking about treason. You're talking about overthrowing the government. That's what this is. If that doesn't rise to the level of expulsion, what does?"

Wyoming resident David Gosar said his brother "has parroted the exact same lies that Trump has" about the election.

"Five people are dead and Congress has been attacked," David Gosar said. "Somebody has to pay a penalty for it."
Remember how Anna Karenina ended? I think Gomar's siblings are much more merciful and the House would be well advised to follow their wishes.

Capitol Rioters Included Elected Lawmakers, Cops, -- and Military Members(?)

At least 25 domestic terrorism investigations opened on Trump's Capitol rioters -- including US soldiers.
Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) revealed that he spoke with Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy and was told about the number.

"A Defense official who was informed about the call initially confirmed that the cases involved troops but later corrected that statement," the report said. "The official said some troops – active and reserve duty – may have been involved in the riot, and the military will investigate them as necessary."

"There is concern that military members may have been involved in the riot," the official explained.

“We are engaged in identifying all of those who took part in breaching the Capitol, regardless of their affiliation,” Justice spokesman Marc Raimondi said Sunday.

The Pentagon also has been asked to review all members who will be a part of the security detail for the Jan. 20 inauguration to ensure the are "not sympathetic to domestic terrorists," Crow said.

Immediately Remove The Republicans Who Voted In Favor of the Terrorists’ Demands
It’s not just Trump who has to go. The Constitution is clear. Any member of Congress who participates in an “insurrection or rebellion” is in violation of the oath they took to defend and uphold the Constitution — and thus they may no longer serve in Congress. Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment, written initially to exclude Confederate Civil War traitors, says that "No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress … who … having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress … to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same."
There are 147 Republican members of the Senate and the House who late last Wednesday night (and into the early hours of Thursday morning) — just hours after a domestic terrorist attack on the Capitol which they and Trump helped to incite — voted to overturn (throw out) the legal and already-certified votes of millions of Americans in the states of Pennsylvania and Arizona. It was an act of sedition and a flagrant violation of their oath of office. Legal experts and other members of Congress have called it an act of treason. THIS MUST BE DEALT WITH. They must be, as the Constitution requires, removed from Congress.
Here are their names. And to be clear: The cop-killing terrorist mob who attacked, trashed, took over and shut down our United States Congress for seven hours — the first time in history this has ever happened — their terrorist demands and their stated intention was to prevent the counting of the votes of millions of Americans and illegally give the election to Trump. So what did these 147 Republican lawmakers do just hours after these domestic terrorists stormed the Capitol in the hopes of killing, harming or kidnapping some of their fellow representatives, including their Republican Vice-President!? They voted to give in to the terrorists’ demands! And do EXACTLY what the cop-killing mob had demanded they do: Throw out the votes of the American people! Imagine if on the night of 9/11, 147 Republican members of Congress voted to give in to the demands of Al Qaeda. We never would have stood for that and we would have had them all arrested. But of course there’s a difference: Bin Laden wanted to take down buildings in the financial and military capitols of America and kill 3,000 people in the process. These 147 Republicans just wanted to take down American Democracy.
ALL 147 OF THEM MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY PER SECTION 3 OF THE 14th AMENDMENT OF THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION

BREAKING: FBI Press Conf

Yes. FBI had info about lead-up activities and shared it broadly through JTTF model of planned possibly violent protests in DC last Wed within minutes. Also know NYPD intelligence bureau communicated directly with USCP.

But did USCP act on these communications? USCP is not reporting publicly, only accountable to Congress.

Arrest of Enrique Torrio Monday before riots enabled by the FBI's early intelligence.

FBI expects hundreds of arrests and prosecutions for crimes/federal felony charges. Immediate arrests on misdemeanor charges, with additional charges poss and anticipated. Focus on reeling them in, holding them on those charges, go on to develop felony charges.

Over 100,000 pieces of evidence.

Attacks on journalists could be prosecuted as First Amendment violations.

No Fly List being considered.

Building cases on weapons and bombs. Bombs were real devices with timers, but did not go off. Investigating poss. that intended diversionary tactic. "I don't like label 'domestic terrorism.' It's being treated like any terrorism investigation. We have plenty of charges -- murder, sedition, seditious conspiracy, vandalism of federal property, etc. Treating like any terrorism case, money, travel, resources, command and control, just like international terrorist crimes."

$50,000 REWARD for PIPE BOMBER(s)

Hostages: Looking at all angles, all suspects are being interviewed about their intentions. No discussion of motive on zip-tie guy. But how terrorists were dressed -- gas masks, helmets, Kevlar vests, camouflage 'uniform,' weapons -- leaves no doubt that these people were mere protestors.

Sicknick murder suspect. Reviewing all video and online communications. Within 40 minutes, vetted material is communicated across nation.

Massive case load. Added burden of inauguration. Additional plotting ongoing by militia gangs.

Where was Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Christopher Wray? Did not appear at briefing. No mention of incitement by FBI despite mention of "seditious conspiracy." No acknowledgment of white supremacist terrorist organizations being perps, nor specific remarks addressing destroying such armed gangs like was done to Prohibition gangs and Mafia gangs in the past.

Semi-satisfactory presentation. Only about 6 questions taken by phone. Many aspects of Wed. insurrection went unaddressed. Expect future Congressional committee investigations on heels of lack of LE response to terrorists and post-coup attempt, esp. by USCP.

There are criteria set out in the Criminal Code of Canada that must be met in order for an organization to be added to the list of terrorist organizations. Thus, it is necessary to consider whether such a decision will survive a court challenge.
“Terrorist designations are not political exercises,” [said a spokesman for the Minister of Public Safety]. “They involve a legal process requiring evidence and intelligence.”

Created in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on the U.S. in September 2001, the terror list includes more than 50 organizations. Groups on the list may have their assets seized, and there are serious criminal penalties for helping them carry out extremist activities.

California doctor Simone Gold made headlines back in July when she and a group of physicians appeared in a new conference in front of the Supreme Court to decry lockdowns.

Gold said that she assumed it was legal to enter the Capitol and that she has not been contacted by law enforcement. The OP message for the record, but in spoiler tags.

Imagine Democratic administrations in power, nationally and in most of the states, and in all of the big cities, when this sort of thing happens again. They will grovel, beg, tie the hands of the police and military (which they will have tried to hollow out via appointments of politically-correct personnel). But electoral demographics make that inevitable in the near future. Don't kid yourself.

So ... get that AR15, two thousand rounds of ammunition, and a dozen magazines, while you can. It won't cost more than a thousand dollars. Get a set of two or three if you can afford it.

Then, come to CivilianDefenseForce.Org to link up with fellow patriots.

The plunge of America into decadence and chaos is a tragedy of world-historic proportions. It's a generations-long setback for liberal democracy the world over.

But we have to face reality.

Prosecutors are looking to modify Kyle Rittenhouse's bail conditions, saying he was spotted out with Proud Boys flashing white-power signs
Charles Davis | January 14, 2021

Kenosha County prosecutors filed a motion Wednesday seeking to modify Kyle Rittenhouse's bail conditions.

The move comes after Rittenhouse, 18, was spotted at a bar (with his mother) after posting $2 million bail in November.

Prosecutors say Rittenhouse was fraternizing with members of the Proud Boys and flashed a white-power hand sign.

...the Kenosha County District Attorney's Office (motioned) that Rittenhouse be prohibited from drinking alcohol (they say he had three beers at Pudgy's); prohibited from public displays of "white power" signs; and prohibited from having any contact with members of violent or white supremacist organizations.

...Rittenhouse is due to appear in court on March 10, with jury selection beginning March 29.

Fox News CEO Job in Jeopardy

FoxNews has lost the ratings battle to both MSNBC and CNN, being out of first place since the election. Consequently, Rupert Murdoch has decided to be a more hands-on owner and that means Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott and President Jay Wallace are fighting for their jobs.

Who needs managers if the Big Boss comes back to run the show? Don't mistakenly believe that Fox will align itself with the truth and stick to reality based reporting of facts. Murdoch will most likely -- if he changes direction with his network -- move more firmly into the camp of conspiracy, incitement, and lie spreading in the attempt to out-compete Newsmax and OAN.

After all, Murdoch's entire business plan is based on monetizing fake news, unproven innuendo , and outrageous conclusions having no relation to facts. And he's made a fortune. Wing Nut Extremism 'R' Us, and always will be.

I find it impossible to believe that the Anti-Dems who have believed all kinds of lies and fantasies about reality for four years because their godhead told them, "Only I know the truth," and denied facts, truth, and reality with all their being for that time can flip a switch and suddenly believe the death threats against them that their political base is delivering. #102--Death threats are flying around like nobody's business--one thing I wonder is if political murder is going to become part of the new calculus of American politics. It seems to me that a large part of the American right are already there. For them killing perceived political enemies might not be a big deal. If they'll murder someone like Pence--they'd certainly would murder Pelosi, Schumer, AOC, Biden, Harris. Trump's empowerment of all these gun rights supremacists have brought them right into the center of our political equation and there are numerous republican congresspeople and Senators and apparatchiks who now pander to them.

Barbarians Behaving Badly

First Federal conspiracy charges filed against mob leader in Capitol attack. Thomas Edward Caldwell of Clarke County, Va., was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 19, and is now facing four federal charges including "conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States. Not sure if this is a charge that equates to treason, but it sounds good enough to qualify.
U.S. authorities. . .allege that the U.S. Navy veteran helped organize a ring of what became 30 or 40 people who “stormed the castle” to disrupt the electoral vote confirmation of President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
The FBI released quotes from 3-4 messages he sent to fellow travelers, including a video clip from inside the Capitol.
Accompanying the disturbing clip, he wrote, "us storming the castle. Please share. Sharon (unidentified companion) was right with me! I am such an instigator! She was ready for it man! Didn't even mind the tear gas."

"Proud boys scuffled with cops and drove them inside to hide. Breached the doors. One guy made it all the way to the house floor, another to Pelosi's office. A good time," Caldwell said. Shortly after making that remark, Caldwell added, "We need to do this at the local level. Lets sic storm the capitol in Ohio. Tell me when!"
Additional hair-raising quotes are included in the article (not behind firewall), including this one,
The FBI said without elaboration that it also recovered a document titled, “Making Plastic Explosives from Bleach,” redacting the instructions in a photo exhibit.

After the presidential election last year, the Proud Boys, a far-right group, declared its undying loyalty to President Trump.

In a Nov. 8 post in a private channel of the messaging app Telegram, the group urged its followers to attend protests against an election that it said had been fraudulently stolen from Mr. Trump. “Hail Emperor Trump,” the Proud Boys wrote.

"I went to a business meeting and a riot broke out." Oh, Yeah?

Arizona lawmakers who were in D.C. during Capitol riot, will not provide emails or text messages about their travel to Washington, D.C.
The Arizona Republic asked the state House of Representatives to provide any such messages from Rep. Mark Finchem, R-Oro Valley, and then-Rep. Anthony Kern, R-Glendale, under public records laws.

. . .responding through a private attorney, and not the House, the duo said they would not turn over any records that are on their “personal devices,” arguing that these are not public records.

. . . ongoing FBI investigation into the storming of the U.S. Capitol (added that), "the threat of criminal prosecution gives rise to certain Constitutional rights that may overcome the duty to disclose otherwise public documents under Arizona’s public records law.”

Arizona courts have ruled that records on a public official’s private device can be considered a public record if those records relate to public business and the phone was used for a public purpose.

House staff sent lawmakers an advisory earlier this month cautioning them against using personal devices for official business, as they would then have to disclose those records if they were requested.

Finchem and Kern both signed on to a "joint resolution" . . .arguing that Congress should not accept Arizona's electoral college votes. . .

Finchem said he had planned to deliver a letter to then-Vice President Mike Pence and meet with members of Congress, as well as speak at a protest that was also to include legislators from several states.

While the Capitol was under siege, he posted a photo on social media of a crowd on the steps of the building. . .
You tell me if Finchem's statements sound like a "defense" of his insurrectionist behavior by insisting he went to D.C. to do official business. Doesn't sound like that letter from a lawyer has any legs in face of a clear AZ court ruling and a warning from House staff.

Sure wouldn't want to be that lawyer and represent these two doofuses in an AZ court trying to fight for privacy privileges when they've already confessed that they were conducting public business. Nefarious or not, they went in their capacity as state legislators, the same capacity that they signed the "joint resolution" expressing their support of a conspiracy theory supported by other Trumpty-Dumbpty state lawmakers.

Democrat in the House To File Resolution of Expulsion against Republican Rep., M. T. Greene of GA

Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-CA) announced Wednesday he plans to introduce a resolution to expel Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) from the U.S. House of Representatives after her execution threats against Democratic leaders online were revealed.
. . . said Congressman Gomez in a statement from his office. "Such advocacy for extremism and sedition not only demands her immediate expulsion from Congress, but it also merits strong and clear condemnation from all of her Republican colleagues, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Her very presence in office represents a direct threat against the elected officials and staff who serve our government. . .
We all heard from Rep. AOC today how she was terrified to be locked down during the barbarian invasion of the Capitol in the same room with Republican reps because she feared they would "out" her if the mob started yelling and pounding outside where they hid and offer her up to be killed. Feds Are Throwing the Book at Violent Capitol Insurrectionists

Recent grand jury indictments connected to the U.S. Capitol attack show the feds aren’t messing around. The initial charges the Feds used to hold the insurrectionists they've captured in jail are undergoing a sea-change. Low-level misdemeanor charges are turning into serious felonies as they are presented to Grand Juries. Crimes that can result in major time spent in federal prison.
As the indictments come back, it appears as though felony charges are going to be the norm for many defendants. Their online bragging, disclosures during FBI interviews and searches of their property after their arrests are giving prosecutors what they need to secure felony indictments.

One common charge is obstruction of an official proceeding and aiding and abetting, in violation of Section 1512(c) of the U.S. Code. While 1512 is better known for its witness-tampering provisions, part of the law outlaws corruptly obstructing, influencing or impeding an official proceeding. The official proceeding in question here is the certification of the Electoral College votes on Jan. 6.
Strongly urge you not to miss reading the lengthy article linked above; the bulk of it is citations of individuals and the charges they now face for attempting to disenfranchise a majority of Americans who voted to turn out Trump and put a qualified candidate, Joe Biden, in his place in the WH.

These people may have come to Washington to act out a delusion based on a diet of lies. But most of them will go to prison to learn what the meaning of "is" is.

Weaselly Terrorist Parents Beg for Mercy for MAGA-mad Terrorist 18 yr-old Son

While Trump is being tried in absentia for inciting a treasonous insurrection in the US Senate, one of his supporters was in federal court in Georgia asking for his son to be released from federal custody after the 18-year-old was charged with shoving an officer during the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Joseph Cua and his wife took their 18-year-old son, Bruno Cua, to the nation’s capital in January because they ― like millions of Americans ― believed the conspiracy theories about a stolen election being floated by the former president.
Joseph Cua attempted to convince a federal magistrate that his son should be remanded to him and his wife for custody at home instead of sent to jail. He declared that he was embarrassed by and should have known better than to believe the Big Lie and he felt responsible for bringing his son to the Capitol.

But Prosecutor, Karim Buchanan, would have none of it.
“I don’t believe that home incarceration would work because he’s an 18-year-old who’s home schooled,” Buchanan said. The things that Bruno Cua had ingested, not only from the internet but from his parents, led him to the attack on the Capitol.

“He went up to D.C., his parents went with him, and then he committed multiple felonies there,” Buchanan said. “The idea that this is some type of learning experience for him ... the danger he poses has not been mitigated. The danger he poses, I believe, is mitigated with him in custody.”

Chief Magistrate Judge Alan J. Baverman agreed.

Bruno Cua, he ruled, would be held in custody until his trial. He would be sent back to D.C., where he’ll face trial for his crimes. . .
Mr. and Mrs. Cua and their son are being taught that home schooling a dependent terrorist is a shameful (and expensive) proposition, and unfit parenting.
Baverman said, “I have to say this is the first time in a number of years in a non-family drug case where his parents were, maybe not instigators, but aiders and abettors and didn’t take steps to stop their child from going off the rails.”
Only a little less reprehensible behavior than, but essentially the same as, their "savior" Donald Trump's.

FBI Director Wray Testimony: The Unasked Question

Most of today's questions of FBI Dir. Wray revolved around two related topics: 1) Ideological alignment of the breach "shock troops"; 2) Intelligence communication breakdown and finger-pointing over weak preparedness. One has to be obtuse by choice to pretend ignorance of the perps' ideology and try to deny their adherence to, or membership in, militant gangs aligned with white supremacism. Wray underscored that ideological point repeatedly in his testimony.

However, the intelligence breakdown is more complicated. No senators, nor Wray raised the point that open sources reported days before the 1/6 attack that violence was planned and being coordinated among militia types, that Stop the Stealers were bent on avenging the loss of their Cult Leader, even that Congress people were receiving specific death threats and that efforts by right-minded members of the public to warn them worked. More than one House and Senate member expressed that they had been fore-warned by friends and family members to "take care of themselves" that day when interviewed on TV programs following 1/6.

The level of citizen alarm over publicly available intelligence seemed higher than any professional institutions' from Capitol Police, to D.C. Metro Police, to FBI, to Nat'l Guard. The willingness of private citizens to act on that information by issuing specific directed warnings to those threatened seemed more compelling than any law enforcement entity's desire to do the same.

"Why is that?" was the question no one asked. How could the professionals be operating in such an intelligence fog when the gen pub could see clearly in the public domain what was coming, react to it, and communicate effectively? The answer may partly lie in the fact that the public had to actually live among the perps, thus were well aware of what friends, colleagues, and family were up to and knew from social media interaction precisely what to expect. And they believed.

That partial explanation seems validated in that over 270,000 discrete digital tips that have led to arrests came from Joe and Jill Citizen, not from institutional digging and investigation. 'See something, say something,' is a slogan that has to go beyond unattended luggage and extend to communications promising violence.

If the FBI needs intelligence help, there's obviously a grassroots willingness to offer it. All the FBI need do, is seek out and listen to tips ahead of time, not just after the fact. They already know how to process raw intelligence, so the ability of the FBI to validate citizen reporting exists before as well as after violent terrorists act. It's a cheap resource with the potential of high value in terms of intelligence returns.

Acknowledged: That encrypted communication requires professional CIs with access to it, something neither Joe nor Jill Citizen is likely to possess. Likewise, it is restricted from the FBI standard surveillance ability.

The misogynist incel movement is spreading. Should it be classified as a terror threat? (Guardian)

As attacks linked to the misogynist “incel” movement mounted in recent years, authorities around the world have begun to treat the ideology as a more serious terrorism threat... There are also signs the ideology is spreading beyond North America... Mark Ponder, who admitted to robbing a bank and a taxi driver, told the FBI that he believed the 2020 presidential election was stolen and he participated in the riot because he couldn't stand for the American people being robbed.
(SNIP)
"I really feel as though it was stolen," Ponder told the FBI, according to court filings. "You cannot stand if someone is going to take it from you. If you are going to get robbed. And you go to work every day, and you go outside and somebody robs you. That's something you can't take, right?"
There's your typical Trump voter, folks. In a text book example of the IOKIYAR perversion, here's this guy's moral compass.
In 2008, he admitted to entering a PNC bank, demanding money and walking out with $2,469. A week later, he admitted to stealing a taxi after he forced the driver and a passenger out of the vehicle, according to court documents.
Jeezuz take the wheel!

By contrast the typical Biden voter is a junkie.

#144–Ponder is hardly the only known felon arrested for taking part in the Capitol riot:

David Page Adams—Tx (deadly conduct)
Andrew Ryan Bennett—Md
Bryan Betancur—Md (burglary) linked to proud boys
Michael Curzio—Fl (attempted murder)
Karl Dresch—Mi as part of his parole he’s banned from having firearms. Guess what they found in his house when they came looking for him?
Troy Elbert Faulkner—Oh
Shane Leedon Jenkins—Tx
Kash Lee Kelly—In (drug dealer, Latin Kings member)
Peter Schwartz—Ky
Thomas Sibick—NY

Also

William Wright Watson—Al was out on bail and waiting for trial in Alabama.

I know a lot of Biden voters (in fact almost every US citizen I know is a Biden voter) and funnily enough none of them are junkies.

Yeah, but Ponder's self-rationalization has to be unique as an example of stupidity + criminality. Even for a Trump supporter.

#149–check out Betancur. He was caught because of the ankle bracelet he has to wear. A self proclaimed white supremacist. He has spoken about some of his ideations—among which driving his car into a crowd and doing a school shooting. Whether he’s a proud boy or not he likes to wear their shit.

Videos Show Representative MTG Ally Was an Insurrectionist Inside Capitol January 6

CNN previously reported that Anthony Aguero, a conservative live-streamer, activist and associate of (Marjorie Taylor) Greene (R-GA), said on video following the riot that he had been among those who entered the building.
At the time of that February report, Aguero declined to answer if he had been inside when pressed by CNN. He claimed videos later posted to social media accounts from both inside the Capitol and outside were not his, but screen recorded from others.

The publicly posted videos of the riot reviewed by CNN's KFile are now the first visual confirmation that Aguero went inside the building. Aguero previously confirmed to CNN that he was at the Capitol on January 6 and said he was an "independent journalist" there reporting the events.
There is no reportage in evidence that he engaged in "independent journalism." There is video evidence that he was a fullthroated member of the attacking mob.
. . .he can be heard chanting "heave ho" as rioters were attempting to break in on the West Side of the Capitol. In a comment, Aguero wrote "MAGA" under the video. Later, Aguero can be heard chanting "our house" among the Capitol mob on the East Side of the building.

In a video immediately filmed following the riot, Aguero said "a message was sent." He later described those who broke in as "patriots," and commented "#PatriotsSaveAmerica2021! Not Antifa/BLM!!!" in a since-removed comment made immediately following the ransacking of the Capitol. . .
(SNIP)
Footage shows Aguero inside the Capitol, just inside and just outside the Rotunda near what are known as the Columbus Doors.

Greene and Aguero have worked closely together over the years on causes such as immigration and the U.S.-Mexico border wall and have attended pro-Trump rallies together. In many since-deleted videos saved by CNN's KFile, Greene repeatedly calls Aguero "amazing" and a "friend." On social media, Aguero has called Greene "one of my closest friends."
Rep. MTG needs to be expelled from Congress immediately and investigated for sedition.

>154 Kuiperdolin:

Because, what I write meets the minimum requirements for expressing an informed opinion. You know, as all American college freshmen are taught in their required writing classes. Was I mistaken in assuming you know that?

But the BIGLY plus is, it pure irritates those who can't manage to defend warrantless opinions. You see, I'm not without a sense of humor.

Don't assume a whole lot.
