Greetings. I am starting to create a new lending library at our church for our children and youth, with the goal of providing a variety quality books showing diversity of different kinds. My brother-in-law librarian recommended Tiny Cat, and I'm excited to begin cataloging books we are starting to receive. Just wondering if anyone has advice to help me avoid mistakes. We are aiming to have 1,000 Books within a year and we have currently have about 50 kids active at our church, to give you an idea of our size. I would love a mentor or two....someone to bounce questions off of. Thanks in advance for any help.

First of all, you add books through LibraryThing and organize your library there too, like decide what collections to use (apart from the default ones), add tags etc. TinyCat uses that database.

I would advise adding a dozen books and then playing around with features like collections and tags to see how best to organize your particular library.

For adding a large amount of books in a short time, there are different options, importing an existing database if you have one, scanning barcodes with the LT app, etc. Ask away if you have any particular questions.

To get quality data, you should use mostly library sources. Overcat is a database of successful searches of library sources. Recent Amazon data can be fine. Data on older books can be awful.

Similarly, member covers are stable. Amazon covers are not saved on LT, and if the Amazon cover changes, your cover will change or disappear.
