I did not see a March thread so I have started this to report something that started badly but turned out well.
My youngest is doing a masters degree in computer science. He has a significant project to be submitted by midnight tomorrow night. At about 7:30 tonight I heard him utter several profanities as he went into a rage of despair. He had spilled a pint glass of water over his keyboard. AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!
We did not have a spare keyboard for his machine. We took about four of them to the dumb when cleaning out a few months ago.
The nearest computer store was closed by that time and would not open until 10am tomorrow morning. When I checked on-line they had very few keyboards and the COVID restrictions require you to order on-line and go down to collect later. Knowing this store I would not be surprised to find out they didn't have any keyboards even though they claim to on-line.
Despair was hitting new highs. We managed to calm him long enough to e-mail his lecturer to tell the tale and request an extension.
That done we turned our mind to other possible sources of a keyboard. With current COVID restrictions we cannot go further than 5km from home for non-essential reasons. We reckoned this was essential. We are also not allowed to go into other people's houses or have them visit our house unless it is in a support group. That was making things awkward.
My other son lives about 11km away, but this is essential. We phoned him to see if he had a spare. No, he did not, but he suggested Tesco, the local supermarket.
It proved to be the solution. I drove there and found they had several keyboards. Not only that, they had a special "SPILL RESISTANT" keyboard. :-)
The day was saved. My son is now back in action with his new keyboard and he is a lot calmer.
Now, the goodness of this tale does not end here. My son said he wanted a USB cable connected keyboard. For some reason he did not want a wireless one. The spill reisitant keyboard was a USB cable connected keyboard so that was fine.
When I got to the till I was to receive a shock. I was expecting a price of around €20 or even up to €40. When I scanned the keyboard on the self-serve till the screen displayed, "Keyboard €2.09". Checked the box to make sure I was buing a keyboard. Checked the screen to verify it registered a keyboard. I got the keyboard, a triple pack of Jaffa Cakes to calm my son down, and two packets of dog treats for €9. Not a bad ending for what was initially a total nightmare.
My son loved the "Spill Resistant" attribute of the keyboard.

>2 tardis: Thanks for the redirection. Now that I see it I think I may actually have posted on it.
Is there any way I can delete this thread?

More pats on back from work! My boss was at a meeting while I was off, and talking about a piece of work and said I'd be doing it when I got back from leave. The other manager (who is more senior than mine) said I produced brilliant work!
My manager is really happy because this is raising our team's profile around the business - which helps if we ask for more money ;)

Life is plugging along. Work is crappy, like being in kindergarten all over again.
On the home front I am busy trying to work in the garden enough so that the baby shower I am hosting in April will feel like a garden party and not a depths-of-the-jungle party. We are having very March-like weather, so it is unpredictable at best.

>7 MrsLee: Aw! I wish I could come and help you with that. I love getting ready for parties; especially garden parties.

>9 Bookmarque: Aw, thanks!
Today it was announced on Facebook, and so I will share it here as well, although I've already told you all. I think you will forgive me if I repeat myself.

Hooray - I just got my computer back. I still need to reload all the personal stuff I removed before I sent it out.
It is now out of warranty, but I decided not to extend, because it took me 3 months to send it out to get the battery fixed. If it hadn't been under warranty I would probably just have ordered a new battery and installed it myself, and it would have been done at least two months sooner.
