I'm not 100% sure where the bug is in this, but there is definitely a functional bug in this.
There are three works in the system at present (at minimum) that have no title, no author, no member count, and no edition information. (They came up from someone marking them as SPAM, though they are not technically spam):
https://www.librarything.com/work/20058184
https://www.librarything.com/work/20058185
https://www.librarything.com/work/20058186
(A little deeper exploration shows any work number from 20058101 to 20058200 are definitely the same as above. One shows as being held by a single member, but I can't find that number again.)
Here's where I find it gets interesting. I wanted to combine the two works into one since they are of the same ilk. With them having a work number, I was able to add them to the work bench. They list in my workbench like normal works.
But when I hit combine to try to link them into one work, I get a blank combination screen.
So I'm not sure if the bug is that I can't combine them or that I could add them to the work bench in the first place. Or that they exist at all.

This is very odd.
I found one with an author and a member: https://www.librarything.com/work/20058104 (by Laura Wright, owned by LadyTi). Will add more as I tab through some of these, if they exist with data.

There's something very, very strange going on here.
If you look at LadyTi's catalog sorted by work ID (you can add it as a column in Settings), that work number does not appear in her catalog. There are, however, a large number of books that appear that have no work number. All show in the catalog as zero member, and all were entered 2017-09-05. I didn't think it was at all possible to have no work ID - are these somehow half-deleted books?

>3 lorax: I noticed that too! There's some other strange things I'm seeing on my end for that catalog, I've passed that to devs as a heads up. Not sure exactly what's going on there.

https://www.librarything.com/work/20058201 has the "Data Missing" no title / no author / no editions issue, and claims to be held by TWO members. One is LadyTi (and again, that work number does not appear in her catalog) and the other is https://www.librarything.com/catalog/MsButterfly whose library has similar characteristics - no book with that work number, many books with no work number. In this case they were entered 2017-08-20, as were a number of books that do have work ID. Partially-failed import? The books with no work ID also have no source.

timspalding fixed this late last night/early this morning, I believe.

Can I be nosy and ask what the fix was?
Because clicking on the link in >7 lorax: still brings up a work with two members but no editions. Are those just dead links now?

The fix may have produced a different error: Author page now lists a zero-copy book, but it doesn't appear on the Combine works page.

(If need be I'll open a new bug report but thought it might be related.)

I only see the work with 2 copies on the author page.

>9 gilroy: Without giving away sensitive details, Tim said that these were old examples from a previous data mapping issue (years ago), basically. He found and fixed them - although I'm not sure if the persistent issues here are part of the fix or not. I've passed along a note to Tim to have a look, at least.
