Killing Icarus by Paul Kemprecos delivers good escapist fun, the best part of any mystery. As a reader, you want to get wrapped up in the world an author has created and you want to find out just who did the thing, how, and why and this quick read of a summer thriller provides all that.

Sure, there are a few elements astute readers will readily guess along the way but there is still plenty to be enjoyed as each of the pieces snaps into place. Although this mystery thriller may work even better as a movie than a novel, even when you think you know what happens next, you want to keep reading to find out. Most importantly for a book like this, there is nothing so seriously askew as to derail the fun train and that’s not an easy act to pull off when you’ve got art history, aviation and the practice of law all on the line.

Praiseworthy - strong heroine and characters with relatable human emotions

Meh - slow start
