The post where there is bad news and good news...
It seems like it's been forever since I've had a real thread. Life has been handing us one challenge after another. Yet again I'm currently in the hospital. This time for a rather large and deep necrotic wound. Most likely caused by the heparin shots I received earlier in the year (Jan/Feb) with my first hospital/TCU unit.
You'll never see me in another TCU in my life. The first one, six or seven years ago, I reported to the state for neglect. The one this February was SO much worse that I couldn't cope with reporting them. I had PSTD for two months after because it was so traumatic.
The hospital, of course, wants to send me to a TCU. I've been here two weeks already (and have had two surgical debridements.) I've refused unless the facility has at least 3*'s on the Medicare site. None do. The only places that will accept me have 2 or fewer *'s. Most likely because they are the places that will take anyone. (Many facilities are unable/unwilling to accept people of my size.)
On to the good news!
I've (had) some fantastic people in my life.
The nurses and aides this visit have been wonderful for the most part. Especially one who came in when wound care was visiting and I was in so much pain. She turned my tears to laughter within seconds by singing and dancing Y.M.C.A. and Macarena. The next day was Stayin' Alive!
I've made a dear friend, E, in a PCA I had for awhile. It didn't work for us as PCA/client because of E's health issues (type 1 diabetes.) She's a young musician who has taken a lot of music therapy classes and I get the benefit of it. She's come to the hospital to bring me a meal and brought her guitar. She sings funny stuff to make me laugh and my favorite version of Hallelujah. We both have ADHD so we really get each other.
Things are still going well with my dad, surprisingly. I don't know if I'll ever 100% trust him but we've gotten much further than I thought we would after I reconnected with him Christmas 2019 after 15 - 20 years. He's been very gentle and generous.
Mom is doing awesome. She just had her 2nd anniversary with Robert and couldn't be happier. She's coaching commercial real estate at 75 (I knew she'd never retire!) and her life is full.
My brother is starting to date again after he lost his wife almost 3 years ago. He's not looking for anything serious, but he is lonely and wants some companionship. I'm glad for him.
And, last but not least, MrMorphy is being his usual awesomesauce and fantastitoast self. He's been taking advantage of me being in the hospital and has been doing a lot of fishing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLcj7TIjgOg
I applied and got approved for CADI services.
Unfortunately, right after I got assigned a case manager, I was admitted. Now I need to wait until I get back home for her to start work on my approved services. I'm blessed to be getting so many: 40 hrs/week PCA, 4 hrs/week ILS worker, 1 hour?/week chore services (lawn, snow shoveling, etc.), housekeeping, meal delivery, medical supplies. Perhaps more, I can't remember it all.
The only challenge is finding a PCA. They are few and far between nowadays.
So, how YOU doin'?

"Community Access for Disability Inclusion (CADI) Waiver: Program that provides home and community-based services to children and adults with disabilities who require the level of care provided in a nursing facility. These services are an alternative to institutionalization. They help a person live as independently as possible in community settings and promote optimal health, independence, safety and community integration."

It is SO good to see you here, friend! I'm sorry you're back in the hospital, but here's hoping you can get home soon.
So, what are you reading these days?

Okay, folks. I'll be going home tomorrow and will be able to respond to posts Thursday or Friday. No TCU. YAY!
I'll be going home with a wound VAC and will have wound care coming out three times a week to debride and change the dressing. Hmm. I guess they need to show Ken how to change the canister, too. I doubt it will last two days.

Morphy! What a whirlwind of a time you've been having. It's good to see you here, and I'm glad you're home.

Sorry it took longer for re-entry than I thought. This wound VAC (vacuum assisted closure) is a bugger and a half. Add in a bunch of different home care people and wheeeee! life has been a weeeee! bit chaotic.
My current weekly schedule will be the equivalent of a full time job. Half will be appointments. Added to my usual 3 hr/2x week group therapy on Zoom and 1x week individual therapy will be - 3x week nurse/PT wound care to change the dressing (including 1x week debriding *shudders*), 2x regular PT, and 2x week home aide. Uff dah!
I just finished Faithless in Death by J. D. Robb which I give 6/10 stars. Remember I rate low. 6 isn't all that terrible. Per my profile page, "Average. An entertaining read but probably forgettable. Will not reread. Recommended for entertainment value to readers with similar interest." Which perfectly describes Faithless. Entertaining and distracting since she's an old favorite but nothing to write home about.
Next up is Sapiens: A Graphic History by Yuval Noah Harari. The hardcover seemed a bit tough for my brain right now. This year has been very difficult with medical, mental, and financial issues. But it's a subject of interest to me. So I'm glad they came out with the graphic novel so I at least get the gist of it.

>9 PaulCranswick: That brought a smile to my face.
>10 scaifea: June was all fluff. If I'm honest, all of 2021 has been fluff. Over the next couple of weeks I'll get my earlier posts filled in. In June I was particularly "bad", reading only J. S. Scott (contemporary "billionaire"smut erotica romances) and J. D. Ward (paranormal smut erotica romances)

I've become totally obsessed with the musical Six about the six wives of Henry VIII.
"The musical is a modern retelling of the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII presented as a pop concert, as the wives take turns singing and telling their story to see who suffered the most due to Henry and should, therefore, become the group's lead singer." ~ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_(musical)
The queens are all roughly based on current pop stars. (They are compilations, like Catherine of Aragon is Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, and Jennifer Hudson but I'm mentioning only the "main" one. See the wiki article for more info.)
Catherine of Aragon: Beyoncé
Anne Boleyn: Avril Levine
Jane Seymour: Adele
Anna of Cleves: Nicki Minaj
Katherine Howard: Ariana Grande
Catherine Parr: Alicia Keyes (the most like - the song Don't Need Your Love could come right out of Keyes' playbook.)
There isn't one bad song (though I strongly prefer the American versions (the Brit stiff upper lip and all) and I do need to be in the mood for a couple of the heartbreakers.) Get Down (Anna of Cleves) is my favorite - it's an absolute trip. It's silly and irreverent and so much fun. ("I'm the queen of the castle, get down, you dirty rascal") I also love No Way (Catherine of Aragon) and Don't Lose Ur Head (Anne Boleyn - the funniest and rudest song of the bunch.)
The rules were so outdated
Us two wanted to get x-rated
Soon, ex-communicated
Everybody chill, its totes God's will
It's not all funny songs. Some rip your heart out. All You Want To Do (Katherine Howard) looks and sounds sexy. Then you realize it's about childhood sex abuse. Then it becomes traumatic. I Don't Need Your Love (Catherine Parr) had me ugly crying from the second or third stanza.
The only problem is they are the type of songs that after you listen to them a few times... they are stuck in your head FOR-EH-VER AND EH-VER.
No Way (London cast, Anne Boleyn alternate) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3Fu-1Eh1nM
Don't Lose Ur Head ((pre?)-Broadway cast, WARNING: song/character is obnoxious and rude...but funny) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyjtyo97rQ8
Get Down ((pre?)-Broadway cast, meh quality - handheld from audience, it's allowed) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LU0vYlrKmXM
Don't Need Your Love (thing called animatic - animated videos to songs, mostly it seems to broadway tunes so far, like them, especially this one) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZO8KtR4m2o

A Thanksgiving to Friends (Lighting the Way)
In difficult times
a friend is there to light the way
to lighten the load,
to show the path,
to smooth the road
At the darkest hour
a friend, with a word of truth
points to light
and the encroaching dawn
is in the plainest sight.
Morphy, to a friend in books and more this Thanksgiving

May all your surprises be good ones this Holiday season.
33PaulCranswick
Have a lovely holiday, Morphy. Miss your regular presence. xx

These were our family ornaments this year and, despite COVID, a merry time was had by all. I hope the same is true for your holiday and here's to next year!!

Forget your stresses and strains
As the old year wanes;
All that now remains
Is to bring you good cheer
With wine, liquor or beer
And wish you a special new year.
Happy New Year, Morphy
