Summer Reading - June, July, August

Hello all! First Check-in for a while for me. Sorry. June was a long month of personal and family stuff that was stressful and tough. I only read 6 books in June which is a low number. I usually read twice that or more. My favorite for the month of June was To Sir With Love by Lauren Layne. I really liked it. I also read Twice Shy by Sarah Hogle, and Set, Shift, Score by Jamie Bennett which both fall in the romance category. I also read The Orphan Collector which I found interesting.

I'll come back here hopefully before the end of July and see if anyone has been doing any summer reading.

I am less reading right now and more trying to make a list of all of the Harlequin ebooks that I own that are spread across various services (kindle, apple, google, harlequin website). I buy them when they're on sale but I suspect that I've been purchasing duplicates to the paperbacks I pick up for free off the library discard table. So I wanted to make a list to add to my LT catalog to cut down on having two copies of everything (esp when some of them really weren't that good). If I do come across some worth recommending, I'll try to remember to share the titles. Happy reading everyone!

I've actually read a little!

I read The Reluctant Father by Diana Palmer. It reminded me why I generally don't like her books!

Then I read Her Temporary Hero by Jennifer Apodaca. That one was decent!

Next up was The Best Next Thing by Natasha Anders. I didn't think this one was up to her usual standard, but it wasn't bad.

Lastly, I read The Lake House by Kate Morton. I love Kate Morton's books. They have a depth and complexity that I really like.

Next up is Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman. My book club (very loosely a book club) is supposed to read it for our next get together. I started it last year and dropped it half-way through. I have trouble reading something when I don't like any of the characters, and most of these characters were pretty unlikeable. I'm going to try it again - hoping I can race through the first half!

I'm also trying to update my list of authors and books read on Fantastic Fiction. It's the best thing I've found for tracking series since FictFact closed down.

>2 genesisdiem: I have a whole bunch of newer Harlequin books that my mom had. Many she didn't even read. She used to have a lot of old ones too, but I don't know what happened to those. Do you collect any certain Harlequin authors? I love Library Thing for keeping track of collections. I have a little work yet to do on my books too.

>3 Hope_H: Yay for you, Hope! Getting some reading done.
July has been a much better month as far as reading for me. So far I've read 8 books with one actually being a DNF. The best one so far has been Catch: A Love Story by Tracy Ewens. It is my first book I've read by her and I really liked it a lot. She has quite a few in her back list that I want to check out. I also read People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry. Personally, I liked Beach Read better which I read last year. I really did like People We Meet on Vacation though.

>4 sdbookhound: I prefer the older books that are now labeled as Treasury Collection. The newer ones I just can't really relate to but occasionally I will find a good enough author to read a few of.

I think Krista Lakes, Kate Perry, Kady Cross, Emma Hart and a few other non-HQN authors are some of the more recent books I've read. I really need to do those next in my LT.

Finished Capture the Crown by Jennifer Estep
It's the companion to the "Crown of Shards" trilogy.
Crown Princess Gemma Ripley, who was introduced in Kill the Queen, is takes center stage in the novel. The 1st installment of the "Gargoyle Queen" trilogy! The sequel will be released next year.
It's urban fantasy with elements of romance.

I've been reading more contemporary than anything for some reason although I do like other romances too. My latest reads are Love in the Wild which is a Tarzan retelling. I liked it better than I thought I would. ARC from Net Galley for If the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy which I was looking forward to because I loved Dumplin' but wasn't as good as that in my opinion. Also read in July People We Meet on Vacation, Ringmaster, Catch: A Love Story, Summer Sisters, In A PIckle, Bad Apple, Medicine Man which was DNF, Butterface, and Imperfectly Criminal.
I also have a goal to read through a bunch of the free e-books I've picked up from Book Bub over the past several years. Medicine Man was one of those and I also read a few others that I DNF'd in late June. I pick up quite a few with no expectations since they are free. Every so often I find a gem.
Not sure how much reading I'll get in this next week but this has been a better month than June as far as number of books read.
