Has anyone here bought the Gutenberg Bible DLE from Easton Press? If you have, do you have any thoughts on it (or photos)?

>1 Gilded_Tomes1: I don’t have it but would love to have it in my collection. It looks absolutely stunning but EP really makes you pay for it.

I can appreciate its historical significance, but I don’t read Latin. I would understand it about as well as I understand Joyce.

Taschen sells a really nice facsimile that is much more affordable. On the other hand, one of my favorite EP DLEs is the Book of Kells.

>3 jroger1: I studied a few courses in Latin back in my undergrad; I just thinking about either this or the King James Bible deluxe version, the beautiful slipcased one, but it's like two grand on ebay at the moment.

I have two mammoth DLEs of the Bible — the 1611 replica and the 2-volume Dore. Beautiful they are indeed, but also so heavy and bulky that they can only be viewed at a desk, something I hate to do because it reminds me of the days of auld when I worked in an office. I’d rather read a lap-size edition with flea-size fonts now that my cataracts have been surgically corrected.
