Are the "Dream of Eagles" or "Camulod Chronicles" books by Jack Whyte worth the time to read them? I admit to coming to dislike them as they are very under researched and actively ignore what we do know about fifth century Britain and Gaul. The only one I haven't read is the last one, "The Eagle."

>2 Crypto-Willobie: ....are names of the two series in Whyte's Arthuriana. I am currently finishing "The Eagle" and am finding no improvement in his approach, characterization, or knowledge of the history of North west Europe in period, shown in his work. I'm not impressed, as he should have been labelled by his publisher as a "Fantasy" writer, as he seems to have studiously ignored what small amounts of knowledge about this period and area we do possess, in pursuit of two anchoring points, the account of the life of St. Germanus of Auxerre, whose biographical information he misrepresents and the letter of Sidonius Apollinaris to some "Riothamus", which is perhaps just a rhetorical exercise.

I have a couple of his Arthurian books but haven't read them. Unfortunately I don't expect to have the time for them any time soon, if ever...

I finished "The Eagle" lately, and freed up their shelf space with what I hope will be more entertaining material.
