I came away with only nine books. I'm supposed to be getting rid of books, but I justified my purchases due to the fact that I have, in the past week or so, donated about 5 bags of books to the Hyde Park-Kenwood Community Conference book sale that will happen in October.
The main reason I went was to hear Rick Kogan in conversation with Carl Smith, whose book, Chicago's Great Fire : the destruction and resurrection of an iconic American City, I had found at 57th Street Books a little while ago. I'm very glad I went, because it was a fascinating discussion, and I'm looking forward to reading the book even more than when I bought it!
