Juan Pascoe, who prints on the iron hand press under the imprint Taller Martín Pescador, is currently on press with "La Piedra Amada, Seis Canciones de Dante Alighieri", translated into Spanish by Francisco Segovia, whose verses appear alongside those same canzoni in Italian.
In 1980 Barry Moser illustrated Allen Mandelbaum’s translation of "La Commedia" with ink-and-wash drawings in an edition that was published by the University of California Press, who also published the larger commercial edition of Moser’s "Moby-Dick". This portrait of Dante is from a wood engraving that was intended for a later Pennyroyal Press edition of "La Commedia", illustrated with Moser’s engravings. That ambitious project was never fully realized, but some of the engravings that were to have been used have survived in the form of reproduction proofs, among them this portrait of "Il Sommo Poeta", which was contributed by Moser from his personal archive expressly for this edition.
The text is hand set in Poliphilus (for the Spanish) and Blado (for the Italian) types and printed on De Ponte mouldmade paper, manufactured in Mexico. Typically TMP books are made entirely at the press, but this edition was hand-sewn and bound in Mexico City with marbled paper over boards in the "sewn-boards" style which allows for the book to open perfectly flat.

This is a remarkable book at a remarkable price, made more so with the participation of one of our greatest illustrators.
