Girl at magic school, becomes God of the 'world' that is her tear after graduation

Fiction, must have read it 15 years ago or so? Read in the netherlands. Think it was a translation though.

Plot
The girl arrives to the magic school by bus (i think). She's got a lot of magic potential (though this is not at all very clear for most of the book, she's just trying to get by) but can't see through illusions. The food seems to be digusting but her roommate loves it - thats cos she CAN see through illusions. (they were put together as roommates to help her learn to see through illusions we learn much later, but they're too antagonistic to each other to learn). At one point they help a girl/classmate get to a different dimension because she's afflicted with reverse memories i.e. she remembers the future - they put her into a dimension in which this is normal (the roommate had a terrifying 'memory'/vision about the main character). I think the headmistress gives her a ring at one point which helps her because it splits her up into multiple selves each of which gains magic 'levels' seperately but which all sum in the end. It turns out the headmistress isn't the greatest mage there but the housekeeper is. The headmistress had a long lost love and she goes to another dimension as well - as she sees him on the other side of the 'veil' (i.e. she dies. the housekeeper releases her from her responsibilities so she join him). When graduation rolls around all the students get a magical object which will help them with their magical talents and their future careers. The main character gets nothing though and is left behind alone. She cries, but her tears fall onto the dusty table. She realises that there is a world inside her tear - and that she is god of that world, for she created it. This is a realisation of a bit of philosophical/magical speculation mentioned earlier about how their world might be as transitory as the dust and tears of gods. She realises that if she turns her attention away from this world for only a few moments - it and its peoples burn, destabilise themselves etc. she realises she must focus on this world for as long as she can (which ofc is at most only days) or it will die. It basically says that she is the highest of magic users - and that the highest of magic users all once made (and lost) a world. The implication is that she will join the Housekeeper in becoming the school's true most powerful guardian.

I believe there is also an animal companion but can't remember.

I was really impressed with this concept as a kid, and the way things never quite were what they seemed. Does this ring a bell for anyone?

Thank you very much in advance!

Maybe! thank you very much ! I will read it to find out! (funny how i remember mostly details and thus the synopses don't mention those, but it definitely has the vague outline of it!!) This has bothered me for ages so if this is it thank you very very much!
