Importing tags for my books.

I have had marginal success importing tags for my books which are in the library. These tags are quite different from book to book so I don't want to tag them all the same.

I have inserted a field in my normal import file. In the field labeled TAGS for a book there is a text string with commas separating the different tags for that book.

It has worked on a few books in the import file but not all of them.

What can I do?

You cannot just insert a tag somewhere - the only format which will allow you to do that (as opposed to adding the book from the sources and discarding what the file says) is to have the exact set of columns (in the exact order) as shown in the sample on the Import page.

To quote the import page:
"At a minimum, it will catch all the ISBNs from any file, web page or text you give it. (That means that any additional information you've included in your file won't import.)

To ensure the highest quality data, LibraryThing imports ISBN books by fetching new records. You decide the sources--booksellers and libraries--you want to use.

Alternately, if you format your file with a precise set of columns, it will import everything in those columns. See the sample spreadsheet at the bottom of this page for the format needed."

So let's start from there - how does your file look exactly and does it look exactly as the sample in the Universal import page?
