The beginning opens with the parents skiing down to the village, leaving their two kids and the grandfather home alone. While they’re gone, an airplane crashed overhead on the mountain, triggering an avalanche. The avalanche buries the house entirely. The kids and grandpa are safe, and continue with confidence the village will come dig them out. Later, the siblings discover their attached cow shed is collapsing, so they move the cows into the hallway to save them. They also hear a faint call for help, and find the pilot of the plane. He was carried down and deposited on their cowshed roof. They very carefully extract him, and escape just as the cowshed collapses. The pilot is injured, so they tend to him. They also begin digging a tunnel from their attic roof upwards. After days of digging, the meet the village people digging down towards them. The pilot is the first to be evacuated, and then the kids and grandpa get out. Does anyone remember the name or author of this book?

I'm pretty sure I've read this, but it was a long time ago. Let me dig.
