Native American Topic

It seems to be time for a Native American topic.

If so, my recommendation would be for the LT admin group to gratuitously (or with consultation) re-tag "american indian" as "native american", respecting capitalization and plurals.

This to better categorize books by Louise Erdrich, Tony Hillerman, Annalee Newitz, ... and two i'm currently reading, or about to:
The Dawn of Everything, David Graeber and David Wengrow
Cahokia, Pauketat

Respectfully submitted,

I can't imagine that ever happening. User data is basically sacrosanct here. If LT decided that any of my tags would be changed without my consent, I'd be furious.

>1 applemcg: Indeed. A perfectly natural reaction. And needs respect. However, ... first I've a ## of tags which I'd gratefully have corrected in the canonical form, respecting only capitalization and plural.

The other thing I'll be suggesting is somethings aren't tags: e.g. "to read" is a person's collection. as is "2020", etc. What do you think of that? I think the admin group should curate the list of tags with a list of "Better as a Collection"

But Let's stay focused here. I think I parked this in the political category. Realizing it has that connotation. So, How about it? What does it take to create a Native American topic? Or is this already, by default, that topic?

Thanks for your reply.

Well, the point is that there isn't any "canonical" form of a tag. You can easily change the tags in your catalog, though, by using the Power Edit function.

People use tags and collections differently. Again, how you use them is really your own business, and if one person wants to use tags to find her books about Native Americans, and someone else prefers to have them in a collection, that's perfectly fine.

What does it take to create a Native American topic?

Have you checked out the Indigenous Peoples group? https://www.librarything.com/ngroups/10198/Indigenous-Peoples

I was absolutely floored to see the OP has been a member since 2006 - this level of unfamiliarity with basic LT culture and practices (i.e. user data is sacred, there's no "admin group", and they DO NOT go messing around changing people's tags even when they're egregiously offensive, much less for an issue of terminology where there's not even consensus among the people being referred to) seems more like someone who joined last week.
