Does AI make us more intelligent or more artificial?

Uh I honestly think this is asked in the wrong group, but let me see.

Artificial intelligence neither makes us more artificial nor more intelligent. It simply is an extension of the ability to create life.

If this topic were in a group such as Big Picture, I would say that integrated with it as humans are, AI in its many forms helps us process information and adapt quickly to changing environmental conditions. That's the same as what higher intelligence does. However, we're also modifying our behavior and destroying natural resources our species depends on for survival to better accomodate machine learning, which appears to lead to artificial evolution for to further depend on intelligent machines to maintain our populations.

Now, here in the CK group, I will say that LibraryThing's automated systems don't meet any current definitions of AI, as far as I'm aware. So I'm confused by the question's presence here.
