Apostrophes - inconsistent behaviour website vs IOS app

I own a number of books in Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe series" Sharpe's Gold, Sharpe's Tiger, etc. If I access LT from the web browser on my Mac and search for "Sharpe's", all the books in the series are listed. However, if I search my catalogue from the LT app on my iPhone, only those books where the apostrophe in the title is unicode U+2019 are retrieved - the iPhone's keyboard uses U+2019 for the apostrophe. Titles where the apostrophe is actually U+2018 or U+0027 are not retrieved. While U+2019 is the preferred character for an apostrophe, it appears that some sources are defaulting to U+2018 or U+0027 - I've had a careful look at my catalogue and I can see a mix of apostrophe characters because the catalogue sources are not consistent (obviously this also applies to books by authors other that Cornwell).

If the app could be modified so that it handles apostrophes in the same way that the browser search field does it would be helpful. I note that searching for "Sharpe*s" does get around the problem.

Thanks for the report about this! I believe this is a known issue, but you've explained the technical aspect of it nicely so I'm keeping it here for the developers to look at. We'll post here with any updates/feedback/questions. Thanks for your patience.

Verified:

1. search "sharpe's" in melodien's lib on the iOS App
2. repeat in melodien's catalog on librarything.com

Bug: I’m seeing 8 vs. 31 results in the catalog

Thanks, maybe this is a smart quotes issue. We'll dig in.
