Fellow member brone mentioned a Church scandal I hadn’t heard of. So I went looking. I think this is what he’s referencing:

Yes, I am appalled. We had a much smaller scandal in the West Virginia diocese last decade. It too was handled poorly. Bishop Bransfield acted like a lord on the backs of parishioners.

Priests, bishops, cardinals and the pope should be shepherds, not financial officers.

The London scandal is nothing compared to the one they are trying to coverup... Forgive my reticence in delaying my post, I do want to research it a little more it is very disheartening for us Catholics who used to think of Rome as Mother of us all....JMJ....

The other mysterious financial scandal swirling around the old city state is involving another buddy of the pope's Archbishop Jose Rodriquez Carbello the secretary of one of those offices in the curia with six names on them. Jose is in charge of the Cor orans regulations on women's monasteries, cloisters,ect it being so toxic a situation that monasteries asking for exemption or delays are met with silence and retaliation. Carbello has taken a personal role in shuttering up monasteries using Bergoglian tactics of intimidation of everything traditional and conservative. Claiming for the Vatican millions of euros in assets and property. Luxury Hotels have been purchased with the assets from shuttered cloisters, a particular fixation of Carbello's while he was the minister general of the Franciscan minors he approved the purchase of 11 Centico a hotel so luxurious an Italian news reporter quipped it is a slap in the face to St Francis. A very corrupt scandal this one involving coverups the hierarchical kind, a suicide involving 20million missing euros of Friars Minor money (how did a Franciscan order who take the vow of poverty get that much dough) this guy archbishop Jose since his appointment to the Velvet mafia has been seizing monastic property and advocating for more luxury real estate development in the name of charity, this scandal is vastly worse than the Becciu scandal. This is the price for archbishops being put into the unholy acquisition of purchasing prime property. Meanwhile destroying contemplative life dating back to the desert fathers. Meanwhile The current peter's pence collection netted 34million euros for the fat cats of the Vatican the contribution from the disdained US not even a "Catholic" country far surpassed any other country in the world, 9million went to unnamed Vatican charities 25 million to Vatican overhead, this kind of professional charity is scandalous...JMJ....

Despite the Pope's relentless attacks on the free market system, and market speculation, the Vatican continues to invest its money in stocks, bonds, equities, and plenty of bank deposits, always secretive as to where and how much. The Pope's outspoken opposition to the American economic system does not prevent his money men from moving most of the Holy See's investments out of Europe, most of the financial skeletons of the Vatican have fallen out of European closets and are now hiding in American vaults. the ongoing rule of Vatican fiscal policy is that Rules do not apply to us....AMDG....

Well, yes. I think you are describing some of the reasons why the pope is trying to reform the Vatican. Unfortunately he is meeting great resistance from within that institution.

Oh I see the people he appoints to reform are not reforming but are now resisting their own reforms....JMJ....

Abuse victim seeks damages from retired Pope Benedict XVI (NCR)

A victim of sexual abuse is reported to be suing retired Pope Benedict XVI in connection with the Munich abuse scandal. The German Catholic news agency KNA reported the victim has accused Pope Benedict — who, as Joseph Ratzinger served as archbishop of Munich and Freising from 1977 to 1982 — of having "responsibly approved" the appointment of a priest as a pastoral minister in a Bavarian parish some 40 years ago, even though the man was known to be an abuser. The legal action is aimed at establishing that the retired pope was partly to blame for the abuse scandal through a so-called "declaratory actio"...

Not a monetary scandal, but it looks as if it might become one.
