The app hasn't been opened in days but has been using 1% of my battery per hour until it was put to sleep through my phone's maintenance settings.
By my rough estimates, it's reducing 15 minutes of battery time in a day simply by existing on my phone. For comparison, my web browser while open and in use goes through only 0.02% of the battery per hour.
My question is why the app using battery at all while not open, and why is it so much?

To be clear, none of the other many apps on my phone has been doing this, only LibraryThing's.
Does anyone know why this happens?

First of all, can you tell me what platform you are talking about? iPhone or Android?
We, of course, aren't doing ANY requests or work that is continuous, at least not on purpose. But I can't even begin to investigate without knowing the platform.

For the record: I'm on Android too and using version 1.1.2 of the LT App too and not seeing this. (I'd have noticed something draining the battery like that.)
I'll let conceptdawg and aspirit find out what's happening.

>6 Pepys: Where? There are frequently other infrequently asked questions with answers here, Talk About LibraryThing tends to be for bigger issues with the apps, and I had no way of knowing if this is a "bug" without asking why it might happen. (Plus I'm tired of "this is not a bug" responses to nearly invisible problems brought up in Bug Collectors).
Some groups are obviously wrong for a topic. (Example: Randomly starting general chats in specialty groups is considered rude on this site, where most posts stick around forever*. We're expected to try a tiny bit harder to read, you know?) This looked like the best place out of bad fits.
Added: If we get more info about what's happening, the problem might end up in Bug Collectors. Until then, I'll wait for what conceptDawg says.

I agree that what you report is rather odd.
