Oddity with a series statistics

I am not sure if this is really a bug or I am missing something in the series details which may be fixable from the site but something is weird with one specific series.

Go to my catalog's series page: https://www.librarything.com/memberseries/AnnieMod and make sure All Collections is selected

Click on Robert Langdon (12)

I have only 3 books from that series in my entire catalog. All other series look ok - or at least I do not see any other discrepancies. But this one is way wrong.

Where is this 12 coming from and why this series?

>1 AnnieMod:

It looks as if a lot of these numbers are strange. My list is here:

https://www.librarything.com/memberseries/waltzmn

Go down to "Alice's Adventures (6)" and click on it. It brings up 8 copies. Possibly the (6) is because it's kicking up two copies of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and two of Alice's Adventures Underground, so there are six works although eight copies. But there are other Alices in my collection.... Of course, they might not have been properly assigned a series. There are some others that look a little dubious, but that one is easy to find.

It may be that it needs a clearer explanation of what it's doing.

>2 waltzmn: Any of my other series I looked at checks out (which is why I noticed - I check this page often so having a weird series that high up caught my eye. And I had not touched the records for these books in ages.

The edit history of that series is a little peculiar, with RevertBot adding repeat versions of the works:
https://www.librarything.com/nseries/history/4
That could account for the inflated numbers, if whatever this has done has the series thinking counting multiples instead of 1 for each work.

>4 Nevov: Yep - I suspect that will turn out to be the culprit. Should not behave that way though so there is something that needs fixing.

1. Go go https://www.librarything.com/memberseries/AnnieMod and see the Robert Langdon series with a count of 12. Click on Robert Langdon to view the series within AnnieMod's catalog, and there are only 3 works listed.

2. Go to https://www.librarything.com/nseries/history/4 and see RevertBot's actions
2a. The Da Vinci Code was added to the series 5 times on February 10 (1 at 2:03pm, 4 at 2:24pm) - no removals shown after the last addition of the same work back in September (1 copy).
2b. The Lost Symbol was added 3 times on February 10 (1 at 2:03pm, 2 at 2:24pm) - no removals shown after the last addition of the same work back in September (1 copy).

3. The series page doesn't show AnnieMod in the Top Members with 12 works, as expected (there's only 3 works): https://www.librarything.com/nseries/4/Robert-Langdon

Comment: While the RevertBot seemed to have done some funky stuff there, which might be worth checking out, it seems the issue lies in how/why the Series page in AnnieMod's catalog is counting 12 instead of 3 works in the Robert Langdon series. I also tried reindexing AnnieMod's catalog: not sure if it went through or not, but doesn't seem to have changed anything.

(I don't see any issues with >2 waltzmn:)

There is an issue with mine, all right, even if you don't observe it by looking at Alice's Adventures in isolation.

Again, go to

https://www.librarything.com/memberseries/waltzmn

Near the top is "Alice's Adventures (6)." Clicking this leads to eight books, not six as described. Now this might arguably be correct; since I have two copies of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and two of Alice's Adventures Underground, you might say the eight books it brings up are six works.

But now go much deeper down the list to "The Lord of the Rings (5)." This kicks up not five but four books. (Ironically, this list does not show The Lord of the Rings, even though I have a copy! Presumably that is the fault of whoever set up the series, and I grant it is not relevant. What it shown is two copies of The Hobbit, a commentary on The Hobbit, and a commentary on The Lord of the Rings.)

So under Alice's Adventures my (alleged) eight books are listed as six works or whatever, and under The Lord of the Rings my (alleged) four books are listed as five. No matter how you look at it, at least one total is wrong. If you're counting works, then "Alice" is right but "The Lord of the Rings" is wrong (should be three), and if you're counting actual books, they're both wrong (should be eight and four, respectively).

I was counting works, so Alice is right. Going to look at your LotR! Thanks.

ETA: OK.

You have 3 works (4 books), when I click to view the LotR series from the series page in your catalog. (The Lord of the Rings Series page even says, "You have 4 books and 3 works in this series"). And, I'm only seeing those 4 books (3 works) at https://www.librarything.com/stats/waltzmn/series. So https://www.librarything.com/memberseries/waltzmn needs to be fixed.

Another case:
1. go to https://www.librarything.com/memberseries/waltzmn
2. find The Lord of The Ring series, showing a tally of 5 works in the catalog. click to view the series in waltzmn's catalog
Bug: only 3 works are listed in this series (4 books), as well as on the Series page and Series stats page for the member: see The Lord of the Rings and https://www.librarything.com/stats/waltzmn/series

Fixed. It's now counting the number of books you have in the series (not works or some weird combo).

Confirmed. Thanks!
