Any thoughts about the Beehive Books Edition of Pinocchio?

The Kickstarter campaign seems to be doing pretty well, and the signed & #ed / lettered editions are sold out. Just wondering what're your opinions on Beehive Books, since I've always admired their work from afar.

The one book I have by them, Crime and Punishment, has an unpleasantly small font. It looks to me like looks are more important than ease of reading / reading pleasure. But I can't speak for other editions - after that one I didn't risk buying another book from them.

My sense from seeing spreads online is the artistry of Beehive is more in modern graphic design layout sensibility. So if that's your thing, they are probably a good bet. Physical quality is reported to meet what I consider basic requirements (sewn bindings, acid free paper).

I have been tempted by their Voyage to Arcturus because there aren't many other options, but so far the utility hasn't risen to the "pay $100 CAD" level (personally).

I would be curious to hear comments from other members about the qualities of the paper they use (coated/uncoated, glossy or not, etc.).

Though, I think there is some merit to having art books based on classic texts, which is how I’d categorize these, with the full text of the books being more of an embellishment than the main feature.

>5 NathanOv: Yes, some of their editions do place legibility at a lower priority. Happily the few pages shown here seem to be quite readable. Though what sells me on this one is the participation of Lemony Snicket.

I keep wondering why a specialty press keeps popping up on a Fine Press forum w/o an OT tag. Maybe it's just me.

Someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but I was under the impression that Beehive Books are printed and bound in China?

I own three of their editions and collect artbooks, and I agree with this statement entirely.
