I just rec'd my CueCat today. I plugged it into my laptop (using XP) and followed the instructions. I first scanned to Notepad.

CueCat successfully scanned, however, before I could copy the ISBN from Notepad to LT my kitty went to sleep. I followed the directions and held CueCat over a piece of paper, but the kitty will not wake up!

I see the blinking light, but holding it over a piece of paper is not waking it up.

I have had to plug and unplug Cue Cat several times in order to get a red light long enough to scan one book.

Can you tell me what else I can do in order to wake up my sleep kitty?

Thanks in advance,
KRG

Update: each time I take out CueCat and plug it back in, I get a red light for about 60 seconds or so and then the light begins blinking.

That's as it should be - the 60 second delay. From memory the CueCat uses a little plastic prism to divert some of the reflected light to the sensor that wakes it up. It could be that this is out of place. It's easy enough to open up and check all the bits fit into a plastic shell thingy that usually holds them in place.

Also you do have to hold it nose touching a piece of white paper to wake it up (dark colours, reds and pinks do not work).

Hi,

Ive just received my CueCat and I have the exact same problem. The CueCat scans without problems but when it goes asleep, after 60 seconds, it won't wake up no matter what I do. I have followed all insatructions for keeping it close to white paper but it won't wake. It's very frustrating as it scans perfectly and I have to keep unplugging it to get it to work. I took it apart to see if all the pieces are there and reset each of the pieces - but no change. Any suggestion? Anyone have a list of the clear plastic pieces that should be present in the snout? I I have a odd-shaped plastic prism and a small plastic lens...

hi,
I have the same problem: my cat doesn't wake up.
It works fine whilst it's awake but I have to unplug it and plug it back in to wake it.

Its usb and its neutered and i'm on mac osx.

anyone have any ideas?

Only the ones listed above. You might try opening it up and prodding the stuff in the nose to make sure the prism is aligned correctly and the lens is there. Beyond that - with three reports, it may be something that some Cats have as a problem.

I've had my CueCat for about 3 years, and I've started to have this problem recently...tried taking it apart, moving things, but it is harder and harder to get my kitty to wake up.
