protag, teen-ish, is with family and their friend on a (i believe) vacation(?). they get embroiled in battling a supernatural(? it may be aliens, demons, but is a nonhuman thing of some sort) force. i do remember one of the elements is that the father of the family is having an affair with the friend.
i'd classify the book as something like a science fiction horror-ish deal.
